You’ll find mainly Minimal Traditional and ranch-style homes in South Walker, many built in the late 1940s and early ‘50s. Homeowners are likelier to maintain their homes than move away or undergo drastic renovations. There are slightly more renters than owners in South Walker, at a 53%-47% clip.

South Walker provides food variety
The neighborhood’s residential streets are neatly arranged around Lighting Creek, which meanders through the center of South Walker with total disregard for the grid pattern. Sandwiched between South Western Avenue to the west and South Santa Fe Avenue to the east, residents have easy access to retail, dining and entertainment options. “This area is the place to go for some of the best Latino-influenced restaurants in the city,” says Jorge Domenack, a Realtor with Domenack Real Estate and a long-time resident of southern OKC. “You can’t beat this area’s location for food.” Stop by one of the many taquerias along South Western Avenue for dinner, then head to Tizo’s Pops and Ice Cream at the corner of South Western and Southwest 51st for dessert. Tizo’s has been a local favorite for snacks and sweet treats since opening its doors in 1973. If you prefer breakfast food, stop by Sherri’s Diner for pancakes. The ‘50s-style eatery has been serving all-day breakfast and made-from-scratch pies for three decades.

Southwestern Plaza is down the road from Sherri’s, encompassing the corner of South Western Avenue and Southeast 59th Street.
