A leafy suburb in northern OKC
Less than 4 miles from the state capitol and even closer to the Adventure District, Wildewood isn’t exactly wild. But dense foliage and towering trees are standout features of this eastside Oklahoma City enclave. “Wildewood has more trees than houses, that’s for sure, and I’d go so far as to say they outnumber the people, too,” says Darian Woolbright, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty Elite Realtor. It’s unusual for an OKC neighborhood to have so many trees, Woolbright says, and they give the area a “country, wilderness-like feeling, even though it’s in the city, close to highways and everything you could need.”
With trees stretching far and wide, it's not hard to see how Wildewood got its name.

Excitement awaits at the Adventure District
The Adventure District, only 2 miles east of the community, has everything from the Oklahoma City Zoo to the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. The Science Museum has nearly 400,000 square feet of hands-on science, art and history exhibits. The district is also home to the Remington Park racetrack and casino. Closer to home and across Northeast 50th Street, E.W. Perry Park has paved walking trails and a playground. Lincoln Park Golf Course, 3 miles east, features two championship courses.

Ranch-style homes and red Oklahoma stones
Ranch-style homes dominate the neighborhood, but buyers can also find split-level, contemporary and traditional homes. Many houses were built between the 1960s and ’80s, but the community has homes that date back to the ’30s as well as some built as recently as 2000. Some streets are more wooded than others; for example, Stonewall Drive has a thick tree canopy, while some of the interior streets, like 53rd Street, have neatly manicured lawns and only a handful of trees. Several of the oldest homes feature a hallmark of Oklahoman architecture. “This state is famous for its red clay dirt, and you’ll find some of the older homes here are made of Oklahoma red stones. It’s fairly common in this area,” she explains. A typical 3-bedroom ranch-style home can range from $225,000 to $350,000. Prices increase with additional space, renovations and larger lots, ranging from $400,000 to $500,000.

Teens can graduate from Classen School of Advanced Studies, a public magnet high school that offers two challenging college prep programs: the International Baccalaureate Program and the prestigious Visual and Performing Arts Program. It’s also the best high school for the arts in the state of Oklahoma, according to Niche.
New shops and restaurants on 23rd Street
Homeland has groceries covered about 2 miles south of the neighborhood. Woolbright recommends visiting Bedlam BAR-B-Q less than a mile west down 50th Street. “You can’t go wrong with a pulled pork sandwich there,” she says. “They have a great outdoor space where they often have live musicians. And there’s a place for the kids to play, with games. It’s a really fun place to gather.” Wildewood is 3 miles north of the 23rd Street corridor, which is lined with coffee shops, restaurants and boutiques. “There’s now three or four commercial projects on 23rd Street. It’s been slow, but we’re starting to see more activity,” says DeAndre Martin, a staff member with Northeast Oklahoma City Renaissance, a community development nonprofit. Progress has grown thanks to the burgeoning EastPoint development, an effort spearheaded by RestoreOKC. The Market at EastPoint is a grocery store and restaurant that offers produce grown at RestoreOKC’s urban farm.
