Alpine Meadows offers ample outdoor recreation opportunities

Alpine Meadows may be home to a former Winter Olympics location, but the area still offers more than unparalleled cold-weather recreation opportunities. When the weather is warm, locals can go fly-fishing in the Lake Tahoe basin at Bear Creek. Other popular summer activities include river rafting, hiking and mountain biking. Golfers can hit the Alpine Meadows Golf Course in the late spring through the fall. This public golf course features nine holes, a practice green and a clubhouse. When the cold weather hits, skiers and snowboarders can shred fresh powder at several slopes like Palisades Tahoe. This ski resort has the longest ski season of any of the slopes in the Lake Tahoe area.

Homebuyers can find everything from lodge suites to mountain estates

Local shops and eateries sit along the Truckee River

Right along the Truckee River is Crest Cafe & Catering. Locals can have breakfast and lunch indoors in the cozy cafe or outside on the deck, enjoying waterfront dining. Crest Cafe has a weekly dinner special, Sushi Thursdays. River Ranch Lodge & Restaurant, also along the river, serves up signature dinner entrees like bison short ribs and New Zealand elk chops. There are several restaurants and shops clustered near several ski resorts and hotels. There's a pizza place, Mexican restaurant, frozen yogurt shop and more. For shopping, there are local ski and snowboard shops and a Patagonia. For grocery trips, residents can travel into Lake Tahoe neighborhoods and shop at one of the several Safeways or in Truckee at Raley's.

Kids may attend schools in the highly rated Tahoe Truckee Unified School District

Neighborhood children can attend the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District. They can begin their schooling years at Tahoe Lake Elementary, which has an overall A-minus rating from Niche. At Tahoe Lake Elementary, teachers supplement core teaching classes with technology, Spanish, art, music and physical education courses. Students can then attend North Tahoe School for their middle school years. North Tahoe School has an overall A-minus rating from Niche. High schoolers can North Tahoe High School, which Niche recognizes with an overall A ranking. North Tahoe High is home to a highly acclaimed music program, including a popular jazz band. The high school also offers a Ski/Independent Study Academy. Students pursuing competitive downhill, Nordic skiing, or other extracurriculars that make it difficult to attend school regularly can enroll in the academy's customized study programs to have a flexible school schedule without losing a comprehensive high school experience.

I-80, State Route 89 are nearby

While mountains surround Alpine Meadows residents, they can get around besides using skis. There are major roadways nearby, like Interstate 80 and State Route 89, connecting residents to Sacramento and the shores of Lake Tahoe, respectively. If residents want to catch a train, there's an Amtrak station 13 miles away. Residents can get around by car or riding the Tahoe Area Regional Transit (TART). The bus runs seven days a week along the 30 miles of the Lake Tahoe shoreline. The Reno–Tahoe International Airport is roughly 50 miles away and offers over 100 daily direct flights serving areas like New York City and Chicago. The Nevada state line is about 20 miles from Alpine Meadows.
