Crown Point draws budget-conscious homebuyers to north Omaha
Crown Point is a north Omaha neighborhood located along Sorensen Parkway, a former railroad corridor repurposed into one of the city’s main thoroughfares. Away from the traffic on Sorensen, however, the neighborhood morphs into a quieter residential area. Homebuyers can choose from an array of architectural styles, and nearby schools appeal to young families. Housing prices are low by Omaha standards, too, inviting budget-conscious buyers and investors to consider the area.
Crown Point housing styles and lot sizes
Omaha expanded north after its founding in 1854, and much of the housing stock in this area dates to the late 1800s and early 1900s. In Crown Point, some midcentury designs are mixed in, giving the area a slightly more modern feel. Cottages, bungalows, Cape Cods and ranch-style houses line the hilly streets, and billowing shade trees give the neighborhood a secluded feel. Lot sizes are modest, but some properties measure up to a third of an acre, and many have paved driveways and wooded backyards.
Crown Point offers a variety of housing styles, including raised ranch and Cape Cod.
Homes in Crown Point were built between the early and mid-1900s.

The housing market compared to the rest of North Omaha
Comparatively lower home prices are a major draw for homebuyers. The median home sale price in Crown Point is around $157,000, nearly half the citywide median. The median home sale price is around $157,000, nearly half the citywide median. Properties usually sell from the lower $100,000s to the lower $200,000s, and there are no HOA or neighborhood association fees to add to the monthly costs. Home prices are slightly higher in nearby neighborhoods like Miller Park-Minne-Lusa, Wakonda and Florence. Conversely, in Central Park, prices are a bit lower, but most houses are much smaller than the ones you’ll find in Crown Point.
Students can attend Belvedere Elementary and McMillan Middle
The Omaha Public Schools district serves local students. Two of the schools that students can attend are within walking distance. Less than a mile away, Metropolitan Community College offers associates degrees in fields such as accounting, business administration and culinary arts.

How to get around in Crown Point
Sorensen Parkway borders the neighborhood and connects to U.S. Route 75, paving the way for the 5-mile trip to Downtown Omaha. “Sorensen offers convenience to downtown and to the interstate,” says Jill Sleddens, an agent with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate who’s been selling in Omaha for about 27 years. “You’re pretty close to everything at that point.” Metro buses serve the area, and service is more convenient here than in some parts of the city. However, while the drive usually takes just 10 minutes, the trip can take about half an hour by bus.
On a related note, you’ll probably need a car for running errands outside the neighborhood. Narrow sidewalks are fine for afternoon strolls or walking the dog, and you might be able to walk to Cubby’s, a convenience store on the other side of Sorensen. But it’s a busy intersection, and the store’s selections are limited.
Groceries and casual restaurants like Zesto’s are close by
Aside from Cubby’s, there are plenty of retail and restaurant options within a mile or so of the neighborhood. To name a few:
Aldi for groceries
Walgreens for prescriptions and sundries
Citi Trends for clothing and home decor
Harold’s Koffee House for hearty diner-style fare
Time Out Foods for fried chicken
A little farther north in Florence, you’ll find Zesto, a drive-through spot with a dedicated following. “It’s a local ice cream and hamburger place, probably the best ever in the world,” says Mo Albers, a registered Realtor with Realty One Group Sterling who has lived in Omaha for 30 years.
