“Secluded, private and incredibly well-located is a great way to describe Oakbrook Meadows/Altech,” says Marla Alberts, Realtor with BHHS Ambassador. This tiny suburban neighborhood of about 250 residences is tucked between Zorinksy Lake to the west, Skutt Catholic High to the north, West Center Road corridor to the east, and the expansive Millard neighborhood to the south. While enveloped by nature in most directions, the neighborhood is also no more than a five-minute drive to shopping, schools and the interstate. Travel time to downtown Omaha is about 20 minutes.

Tree-lined streets with sidewalks accent the community that is known for its classic mid-century modern split-level homes. As many homes are coming up their half-century mark, owners and buyers are updating and renovating these properties which is making them that much more desirable. “Pride of ownership is evident around here and you can see that in the quality and extent of recent renovations and updates. Homeowners are building swimming pools, expanded decks, repurposed basements and completely redesigning interiors with new lighting, appliances, fixtures and hardware. They love the area and they want to stay, so they’re bringing their homes into the present which breathes new life into the overall vibe of the neighborhood,” adds Alberts.

Homes are attractively priced in Oakbrook Meadows/Altech with sale prices over the last nine months ranging from $280,000 to $326,000. A beautifully updated split-level from 1992 with three bedrooms, 1,600 square feet, and a swimming pool with a wrap-around deck, can be found for $305,900. A thoroughly updated split-level with loads of stunning, modern upgrades on a large half-acre lot recently sold for $326,000. Outdoor enthusiasts will be drawn to this neighborhood’s unique location amid parks, lakes, creeks and bike trails.

Families are drawn to highly rated Millard District public schools. Niche rates them No. 2 of 242 Best School Districts in Nebraska. Montclair Elementary has a student-teacher ratio of 17 to 1 and offers a Gifted & Talented program. Millard North Middle is ranked 11th out of 131 Best Public Middle Schools in Nebraska by Niche. Notably, it is the only middle school in the Millard district to offer an International Baccalaureate (IB) program. Millard North High is also an IB school, with an overall ranking of A-plus by Niche and is ranked the #1 Best Public High School in Nebraska, out of 265 schools. The neighborhood shares its north edge with the popular Skutt Catholic High School. Founded in 1993 and funded in large part by a gift from V. J. Skutt, the founder of Mutual of Omaha, the school was built in response to a need for religious secondary schools in the growing region of west Omaha.

Nature lovers and outdoor athletes will particularly enjoy living in Oakbrook Meadows/Altech as the neighborhood is anchored squarely between Zorinksky Lake to the west and West Papillion Creek to the east. Both popular sites are a short walk from your front door. Zorinsky Lake itself covers more than 255 acres and offers excellent fishing and boating. Its adjoining park offers two modern playgrounds, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, a football field and endless hiking and bike trails. Camp Zorinsky is a summertime local favorite, too.

If living surrounded by the restorative benefits of nature isn’t enough to keep you refreshed, you may enjoy visiting Serenity Massage and Wellness, located nearby on F Street. When dining out with friends there are plenty of choices nearby from fast food to fine dining across a wide spectrum of flavors including Asian, Mexican, Italian, Greek and Japanese, not to mention Israeli and Middle Eastern options, too. Cilantro’s Mexican Bar & Grill has solid reviews for their signature options such as the Cilantro’s Salad and the bontana chips. Industrial Bar & Grill is a lively, locally owned sports bar and restaurant that offers specials for Husker games and Monday Night Football jersey giveaways. Daily specials include taco basket Tuesdays and chicken fried steak Thursdays.

When stocking the fridge in your new kitchen, stop by Family Fare Supermarket for staples and their weekly specials. Barreras Farm Market has the distinction of being Omaha’s only farm-to-table fresh food market. They collaborate with farmers and small businesses not only in Nebraska, but also Iowa, Kansas, and Colorado.

With its intimate size and location bordering lakes and parks, to its closeness to shopping and schools, buyers can’t miss its advantages. Then, when you consider the quality and condition of its mid-century homes, you’ll be waiting for the next listing to come into your eager view.
