Suburban Neighborhood in Omaha, Nebraska
Douglas County 68134
Many Northwest Omaha neighborhoods weren’t fully developed until the 1970s, and therefore, you’ll find midcentury homes alongside renovated farmhouses from the early 1900s near pockets of one-of-a-kind Tudor-style homes from the 1930s. This blend of home styles works well in Saddle Hills, a neighborhood that blends new and old seamlessly. While Saddle Hills is home to Mount Sinai Cemetery circa 1854 and thriving Jaynes Street Community Church, founded in 1964, it also hosts thriving public schools that are welcoming investment and expansion as is Morton Magnet Middle School and established community icons like Benson Championship Golf Course.
No matter the age of homes in the area, homeowners preserve and invest in them. As Jan Nicola, Realtor with Nebraska Realty says, “Neighbors take pride in their homes here. Buyers will find properties that are really well-maintained, updated, or renovated.” Split-entry homes with three bedrooms have sold for $280,000 to $320,000 in the first six months of 2023. You can find four-bedroom ranch-style homes for around $300,000 and brand-new three-bedroom ranch-style homes for around $430,000.
Boyd Elementary is located a short drive from home and offers pre-K through fifth grade. It is a local landmark as it sits high atop a hilltop overlooking the Saddle Hills area. Morton Magnet Middle offers sixth through eighth grades. They will soon be embarking on an expansive renovation adding thirteen classrooms, a 100-person meeting space, and significant structural and technical updates. Omaha Northwest Magnet High offers more than 40 honors programs and Advanced Placement courses. Saddle Hills Park is tucked quietly along the south edge of the neighborhood and features three and a half acres with a playground, basketball and tennis courts, a picnic area and plenty of open space for chasing the kids or walking the dog. If you crave outdoor sports, you’ll enjoy Glenn Cunningham Lake, a 390-acre reservoir that’s linked to Little Papillion Creek. The 1,000-plus acre park includes camping, kayaking, boating, fishing and horseback riding. Golfers will enjoy living close to Benson Championship Golf Course, one of eight municipal Omaha courses known for its consistently excellent condition.
Dining options near Saddle Hills run the gamut from casual to upscale. When you’re craving a homemade breakfast any time of the day, Keystone Kafe is the place to go. Try their World’s Best Waffles. Mangia Italiana receives high praise from Italian food lovers. They feature a different homemade soup every day of the week and their ever-changing desserts are hard to resist. Try their tiramisu or the limoncello cake. For trendy and funky clothes and accessories, check out Vaiv Apparel. When you want a memorable dessert but don’t have time to bake, try Cupcake Boyfriend Bakery. “Handcrafted with love” is their tagline and that’s apparent when you survey their creations. For groceries and home décor, you’ll find Walmart Supercenter close by on 99th Street. The Home Depot is nearby at Benson Plaza with home improvement and lawn and garden necessities.
Even though conveniences practically surround Saddle Hills, it’s good to know that if you need to get downtown or to the airport, you’re less than a five-minute drive to Interstate 680.
