Sherman offers historic bungalows and midcentury homes
In the early 20th century, hundreds of Omaha businessmen began to build small but attractive bungalows, facing the shores of Carter Lake, for their families who desired homes on the water away from the summer heat of downtown Omaha. “There’s a history of change in the Sherman neighborhood, but one constant for more than 100 years has been its historic bungalows. The area is known for its turn-of-the-20th-century properties. They’re attractive to homebuyers because they’re architecturally significant, well-built, and well-priced,” says Tina Sempeck, Realtor with eXp Realty. Today, homeseekers can still find a few of these cottages, bungalows and shotgun shacks built between 1900 and 1930. Midcentury ranch-style homes are also common throughout the area. Today, the Sherman neighborhood surrounds not only Carter Lake, but also Epply Airfield/Omaha Airport. Well-updated bungalows with front porches and just over 1,000 square feet can be found for around $160,000. You can find five-bedroom, two-bathroom bungalows with almost 1,500 square feet for around $170,000.
