Rural enclave minutes from Lake Nora amenities

Along the north shore of East Lake Tohopekaliga, Boggy Creek combines lake, country and city life into one small suburb. The southeast Orlando community appeals to newcomers because of its proximity to nature, with over 1,000 acres of lakes and waterways and 40 miles of trails in the region. “The big draw is its proximity to the outdoors; there’s so much to do,” says Anthony Tejada, Realtor with LPT Realty, serving the Orlando area for over six years. “You have hiking trails, it’s right on the coast of Lake Toho for people who want to fish or boat around, and you have the sports complex right at the center. It’s like a retreat into nature.” While Boggy Creek feels like a rural enclave away from the hustle and bustle, it sits 5 miles from Lake Nona, a vibrant community known for its top-ranking hospitals, vibrant downtown district and an innovative medical sciences and research park. “Boggy Creek is off the beaten path, but you’re minutes from Lake Nona, which is booming; it’s one of the fastest-growing areas in Orlando,” says Tejada. “With the 417 right there, you can also get to restaurants and the airport within minutes.” Boggy Creek’s proximity to major thoroughfares also provides easy access to the city of St. Cloud, 13 miles away and Walt Disney World theme parks, 19 miles away.

Fun on the water at Lake Toho

Austin-Tindall Sports Complex is a sprawling recreational complex at the heart of Boggy Creek with nine fields for soccer, football, lacrosse and rugby. The complex also hosts annual field hockey and archery matches. Six miles north is the Lake Nona Adventure Park is 6 miles north, offering an inflatable water park, an obstacle course and wakeboarding. On Narcoossee Road, not far from the park, hikers and cyclists will enjoy the 7-mile Laureate Park Trail, a natural path that winds through neighboring communities. The 12,000-acre East Lake Tohopekaliga, or Lake Toho as locals call it, is the hub for most outdoor activity. “Lake Toho is one of the top lakes in the world for bass fishing," says Realtor Matt MacNab of Olympus Executive Realty. MacNab has lived and sold homes in the area for over two decades. Beyond fishing, the lake is a hot spot for boating, bird watching and hiking. Ralph V. Chisholm Regional Park is on the eastern side of the lake and offers a boat ramp, ballfields, hiking and horse trails, and a playground. The park’s beach area is one of its most popular spots for swimming and picnicking. The 43-acre Lake Runnymede Conservation Area sits a few miles south of the regional park and is popular for hiking, camping and bird watching. Boating enthusiasts enjoy access to Freedom Boat Club—Kissimmee, located on the northern shores of East Lake Toho. Membership offers a variety of boat rental options, including those for sightseeing, fishing and snorkeling. East Toho RV Resort & Marina is a public option close by. It has a campground, a boat lunch, bass fishing, and a swimming pool. Lakefront Park Marina sits at the opposite end of the lake, offering more boat rentals and fishing.

Lakeside bungalows and modern townhouses

Boggy Creek’s suburban streets give way to sprawling wetlands and prairies, giving the neighborhood a rural, secluded feel. Ranch-style homes, coastal contemporary houses and bungalows sit against a wetland forest along major canals and creeks leading to the surrounding lakes, providing easy access to outdoor recreation. Two gated communities of Spanish-revival style houses, North Pointe and North Shore, offer more traditional suburban environments with just as much comfort and quiet. Prices range from approximately $400,000 for a three-bedroom home around 1,500 square feet to around $750,000 for a five-bedroom home over 3,000 square feet. There are a few million-dollar custom-built homes close to the shores of Lake Toho. Most Boggy Creek homes have multi-car garages, spacious outdoor patios with pools and fenced-in yards with towering palms. Lot sizes allow plenty of room for entertaining or gardening, with most around 9,000 square feet, spanning up to nearly 2 acres. “You get so much more room to spread out for your money, and this area is a much better deal compared to Lake Nona or other areas near the water or resort communities,” says Tejada. Most homes were built in the early 2000s, but new construction is going on in the Towns at Creekside subdivision, which offers townhouses. Townhouses range in price from around $370,000 for a two-bedroom to approximately $494,000 for a three-bedroom. They come with monthly association fees, which include access to a community pool and playground.

Crabby Bill’s is located 10 miles away at the Lakefront Park Marina on the south side of East Lake Toho for waterfront dining. The restaurant is known for its coconut shrimp, half-pound, fire-roasted bairdi crab and seafood boils. The restaurant offers an all-day happy hour and live music on the weekends. Residents can fuel up in the morning at CFS Coffee Lake Nona, and for more shopping and dining options, Lake Nona Town Center is a 6-mile drive north.
