A suburban community with a rich history and natural beauty
Filled with happy little trees and even happier people, the suburban community of Lockhart, where world-renowned painter Bob Ross once lived, traces its origins to the late 19th century when sawmills and orange groves contributed to the Orlando area’s growth and success.
Two centuries later, Lockhart is an established community. With a mix of older midcentury homes and a few new custom builds, Lockhart is one of the region’s more affordable places to live. “It’s a starter community where maybe you buy your first home then get out in a few years,” says Todd Schroth, a local eXp Realty agent and founder of the Todd Schroth Home Selling Team based in nearby Altamonte Springs. “Orange Blossom Trail used to be the interstate for Florida, so you’ll find commercial and industrial zones there, too.” Along Edgewood Drive, one of the community’s main thoroughfares, a 123-foot mural depicts the community’s history, capturing its early days as a busy railroad town to more modern times as a diverse community blending cultural heritage, modern industry and natural beauty.

Lockhart features architectural styles ranging from midcentury ranch-style homes to colonial-inspired modern traditional homes. Connected by curvilinear roads and sidewalks, Lockhart’s colorful and traditional homes are tucked away on quiet neighborhood streets and cul de sacs, some of which front small lagoons and lakes, giving a few homes waterfront access. Townhouses and apartments are also available, with about one-third of residents renting their homes. Home prices range from around $100,000 for a condo in an apartment complex from the 1970s to approximately $350,000 for more contemporary homes or well-maintained retro bungalows and ranchers. At the top of the community’s housing market, larger 2,000-square-foot homes sell for $500,000 or more.

In Maitland, an adjoining suburban municipality, folks can find reprieve from the Florida sun skating or playing hockey at the Orlando Ice Den in the Genesis Health Clubs Orlando Sportsplex. It's a situation to be grateful that a roof is over my head but we could be somewhere better for the price

My neighborhood is literally behind a middle school and down the street from 2 elementary schools. So there is a lot of kids around and plenty of supervision. It's nice seeing kids playing outside these days and not stuck in the house and my neighborhood is just the right place. I've been living here in Citrus Cove for 19 years and I've seen new faces and the same faces through out my stay. I would most definitely choose to live here again.

It's a nice little town. Pretty quite except they go all out on fireworks for the Fourth of July. It's a nice place to live and raise kids. I know I loved growing up here. The only advice I would give would be to put your kids in a private school because the public schools that you are zoned for are not the best.

Been here a year now, and haven't had issues. The neighborhood is very colorful - has character and isn't too loud. Have had crime-related incidences happen near my home but never felt unsafe.
