Rosemont boats a lakeside location near the Packing District

Homes, apartments and condos surrounding Lake Orlando make up Rosemont, a relaxed neighborhood that stays connected to downtown Orlando thanks to Orange Blossom Trail. While the neighborhood is a collection of disparate subdivisions and complexes, the Rosemont Neighborhood Center acts as a place for the community to gather for sports and clubs. It’s only 2 miles to the restaurants of the Packing District, one of Orlando’s newest mixed-use developments.

How much it costs to live in Rosemont

In Rosemont, you’ll often find price tags that are on the lower end for the Orlando market. In fact, Rosemont’s median price is in the mid- $200,000s, significantly less than Orlando’s median price. Single-family homes typically sell from the lower $200,000s to the lower $400,000s. Whether or not you have to pay homeowners association fees depends on the subdivision, but HOAs in Rosemont rarely charge more than $100 per month. Lake Orlando is surrounded by condo communities, some of which come with views of the water. Units have recently sold from the lower $90,000s to the mid-$200,000s. Plus, condo communities typically charge monthly association dues that can cost up to $500. On top of mortgage payments and possible HOA fees, most homeowners pay property taxes to the city of Orlando and Orange County. The southwest corner of Rosemont, which is outside the city limits, is an exception.

Orange County Public Schools allows students to apply to Scholastic Academies and magnet programs, which have specialized coursework, at schools across the district. Four miles from Rosemont, the highly rated Edgewater High School oversees two such programs: the Gifted Scholastic Academy for those who want to challenge themselves with rigorous coursework and the Center for Future Educators, a magnet program that offers internships with Orange County Public Schools. Families can apply to the lottery-based programs from October to December and in April.

Family-friendly activities at Rosemont Neighborhood Center

The Rosemont Neighborhood Center and Pool is a center of activity, from competitive canoeing to summer camps. "This is a community-focused neighborhood where locals know each other,” says Gerald Chiles, the regional center manager of the neighborhood center and a Rosemont resident. “We have an active community center with countless offerings that address the needs of residents of all ages.” Children as young as 5 years old can join basketball leagues and play on the neighborhood center’s renovated court, while adults join fitness classes or the Seniors Program. Nearby Trotter’s Park was once a horse track, but today it hosts soccer fields and baseball fields, the latter of which host Orlando Babe Ruth youth games.

Run errands nearby or eat out at the Packing District

Shopping centers and strip malls congregate at the intersection of Clarcona Ocoee Road and Orange Blossom Trail, where you can browse clothes and home décor at dd’s Discounts or pick up household items from Dollar General. For groceries, there’s a Walmart Neighborhood Market 2 miles away.

Orange Blossom Trail leads 2 miles from Rosemont to the Packing District, a development in Princeton-Silver Star that's repurposing Orlando’s defunct citrus-packing hub. “The area dried up from lack of citrus business,” says Eric Rollings, a Realtor at Mainframe Real Estate with more than a decade of experience in the Orlando market. New businesses and residences have taken the citrus industry’s place, he says. “There are some restaurants, coffee places and a lot of apartments. They do have kind of a cool thing over there where they have a multi-faceted park that has walkways and tons of tennis courts. They have an urban farm place with goats and horses.” Places to go in the Packing District include:

  • 4Roots Farm Campus, a nonprofit farm that hosts a monthly farmers market
  • Foxtail Coffee Co., a cafe that also scoops Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream and pours beers from Ravenous Pig Brewing Co.
  • The Great Southern Box Co., a food hall with Jamaican, Brazilian and Thai cuisine
  • The Grove Park, home to Orlando Tennis Centre
