Homes of all sizes in Lakevue
Home styles include mobile homes in a 55-plus community, multi-family developments such as condos and townhouses, and streets of single-family stucco stunners with meticulous landscaping. It's common to see backyard pools and lanais, and many single-family homes sit back from the road on generous lawns with a forested buffer. Rows of modern Cape Cods with covered porches or brick exteriors add to the mix. Contemporary single-level and two-story stucco homes in clay, seagrass and sand hues are surrounded by mature trees. Pricing can range from around $200,000 up to $600,000.YMCA, Nova Center and parks
The Ormond Beach Family YMCA offers a wealth of programs and camps. In 2022, a new kids' zone and spin rooms were added to their roundup of amenities, such as a heated outdoor pool, basketball gym and sauna. Across from the Y, pups enjoy a dog park with agility structures on a fenced green lawn amid moss-draped oaks. Locals learn to skate at the Ormond Beach Astro Skate Family Fun Center, where teen nights and sessions from hip hop to tiny tots are popular. To the west, Nova Community Center and Park is loaded with indoor and outdoor amenities. Residents head here for racquetball, a well-equipped skate park, a sprawling lighted baseball complex and the playground at Rainbow Park, also known as Magic Forest. Kids enter through a painted rainbow and the imaginative playscapes incorporate rockets, forts and tubes. "Ormond Beach has more than 60 public parks," says Bittner, "so you're also near Sanchez Park, which is really pretty, and has a boat ramp for river access."Volusia schools and a private option
Public schools are within the Volusia County School District, which Niche gives an overall B. Kids start at Pine Trail Elementary, given a Niche A-minus, before moving on to Ormond Beach Middle, which gets a B from Niche. Older students head to Seabreeze High which earns a Niche B-plus and features Career and Tech Ed Academies for students pursuing careers in healthcare, construction design, culinary arts and digital video. Bittner adds, "Temple Beth-El is a highly regarded private school option on Nova north of Wilmette. They have very low teacher turnover, and are considered a great launch pad to higher education."
Fun at Astro Skate and Fletcher's
Holidays are fun at Astro Skate. Skaters wearing the most red can win prizes during the annual Skate with Santa. On New Year's Eve, Astro hosts a family-friendly skate party with a mega balloon drop, midnight toast and free admission for parents. And on the first Sunday of every month, Fletcher's Irish Pub combines an Irish Music Open Jam Session with authentic Irish treats.
Votran bus stops
Locals can also opt for public transit at Volusia County Votran bus stops along Granada Boulevard and Nova Road.Dine and shop along Granada
It's easy to plan casual date nights or dinners out or meet friends for lunch because West Granada Boulevard is flanked with commercial plazas, pubs, and bakeries. Fat Paulie's Wicked Awesome Eatery features "house made from scratch" sandwiches such as the Chicken Piccata or Lobstah Roll. Across Granada from Fat Paulie's, there's a Winn-Dixie for grocery shopping. On the corner of Winn-Dixie, Fletcher's Irish Pub pours more than 40 local and imported brews on tap. "One of the great attributes of living here," adds Bittner, "is that you're surrounded by everything you need. You never have to go far."
