Local children often begin their educations at Tomoka Elementary, which has a 15-to-1 student-teacher ratio, before moving on to Ormond Beach Middle. Both schools have B Niche ratings. Teens move on to the B-plus Niche-rated Seabreeze High School, which offers Advanced Placement classes.

Sherry’s Beach is 5 miles east of The Trails. Folks go there to soak up the sun and play in the oceans. Residents take tennis lessons at The Trails Racquet Club, a staple in the community since the 1920s. “You can play as a guest or a member,” says owner Jan Buenner. “We love hosting all players regardless of skill or ability.” Members can sign up to match with a team at the club, which competes in the Great Volusia Tennis League. Residents continue being physically active by visiting Nova Community Center and Park on North Nova Road. There are handball courts, an outdoor basketball court, tennis courts, baseball fields and pavilions. Children can join in on the fun, especially during the summer at the youth camp. The Camp T-Rec provides day activities for children with special needs. The adjacent 60-acre park features the Magic Forest Playground, also known as the Rainbow Park, where imaginative play transports kids into a mythical world filled with castles, dragons and knights.

Local dining and big-box retail
The Trails is a short drive away from the nearby eateries. Diverse dining options line Nova Road. Greektown Taverna serves traditional Mediterranean dishes like chicken kabobs and gyro pita sandwiches. Folks belly up for the South American flavor found at La Fiesta Mexican Cocina. The Daytona 500 kicks off the racing season just a few miles from the The Trails.

The Daytona International Speedway, 8 miles south of The Trails, has hosted the annual Daytona 500 NASCAR race since 1959. Residents catch new film releases at Ormond Beach’s Regal movie theater. Daytona’s annual Fourth of July festivities unite residents and visitors for a veterans parade down Main Street, live music and a fireworks show. Residents travel 9 miles southeast to root for Minor League Baseball’s Daytona Tortugas.

The neighborhood has limited access to public transportation and is primarily car-dependent. Residents can walk to catch the bus on West Granada Boulevard. The neighborhood's paved biking and walking trails cut through the woods. Most streets are not lined with sidewalks. Residents drive 8 miles southeast to Daytona Beach via U.S. Route 1 and 60 miles southwest to Orlando via Interstate 4. Daytona International Airport is 8 miles south of The Trails.
