Milburn
Milburn locals are proud of their flower-filled streets
Milburn is full of ranch and split-level homes that were mainly built in the 1950s. These homes typically have between 3 and 4 bedrooms and “traditional” architectural features like stone chimneys or brick exteriors. Homes are built along neat, even sidewalks surrounded by large front yards and shade from full-grown oak trees. Gardens are common, and yards are often filled with flowering garden beds or bushes. Most properties are priced between $200,000 and $350,000 and several listings come on the market every month.One-stop shopping in Downtown Overland Park
The nearby 75th and Metcalf Shopping Center, which is located at the intersection of Metcalf Avenue and 75th Street, has everyday needs, including groceries at Price Chopper. Milburn is less than 2 miles from Downtown Overland Park, which has locally owned bookstores, clothing shops and a seasonal farmers market on Marty Street. “One of the signature community amenities is the Overland Park Farmers’ Market, which brings dozens of vendors selling fresh produce, local foods and unique specialty items to Downtown Overland Park nine months out of the year,” Ralph says.Several unique culinary options can also be found in Downtown Overland Park. Strang Hall along 80th Street offers a one-of-a-kind dining experience, with six restaurants under one roof. Diners should come hungry and take time to sample tacos, pizza, sushi, Thai cuisine and cocktails – all curated by local master chefs. When locals need a sweet treat or gift, they look no further than Strawberry Hill Baking Company just off Interstate 35. The bakery specializes in povitica, a type of Croatian pastry, and gourmet coffee cake.
Students get culinary lessons at the Broadmoor Bistro
Students can attend the highly-rated Shawnee Mission School District. East Antioch Elementary School earned a B on Niche, while Hocker Grove Middle School and Shawnee North High School both scored a B-plus. Shawnee Mission School District also has a special program for students interested in studying culinary arts. Through the district’s Center for Academic Achievement, budding chefs can plant and harvest their own ingredients at the Broadmoor Urban Farm, and then put their skills into action at Broadmoor Bistro. This completely student-run restaurant, located on West 71st Street, is open to the public and serves a three-course menu that rotates every semester. Students across the district often go on to attend The University of Kansas or Kansas State University, which are both in the Overland Park general area.Private swimming and golf at Milburn Country Club
The neighborhood is anchored by Milburn Country Club, which has been in the Kansas City area since 1917. The private club offers an 18-hole golf course, clubhouse and five tennis courts that are open year-round. New swimming facilities were opened in 2021, including a poolside restaurant and a competition-size pool serving the club’s swim and dive team and. Antioch Park, which is directly north of the country club, is one of the largest public parks in the area and has two fishing lakes, over three miles of walking trails, a rose garden and play area.
Easy access to the community with Ride KC
Milburn and the rest of Overland Park are served by Kansas City Regional Transit, also known as Ride KC. Numerous bus routes are along Metcalf Avenue, Antioch Road and West 75th Street.
