Jefferson Street
American Foursquares and Craftsman-style houses
The single-family housing along Jefferson Street was primarily developed between the 1890s and 1930s. The homes fall in line with Paducah's median price, with options and sizes spanning a broad price range. Single-story Craftsman-style homes from the 1920s are valued between $145,000 and $170,000. Assessors value the street's brick American Foursquare houses from the turn of the 20th century at between $160,000 and $320,000. Brick Colonial Revivals from the late 19th century are valued as low as $140,000, and a 1910s Prairie-style with a barrel-tile roof is valued at $630,000.An annual Halloween bash and the county fair
Jefferson Street's annual Halloween celebration attracts thousands of trick-or-treaters, according to WPSD Local 6. "People decorate their yards and houses for Halloween, and the local police shut down the street for trick-or-treaters," Johnson says. The downtown, a mile east of Jefferson Street, is also a source of local fun. The downtown's Maiden Alley Cinema shows new films as well as classics. The nonprofit arthouse theater operates from a brick warehouse illuminated by a neon sign. The Carson Center for Performing Arts hosts touring bands and Broadway series. BBQ on the River is the city's most popular event. Thousands of people flock to the riverfront every year to try smoked meat and listen to live music. Residents cross Joe Clifton Drive to access Carson Park, which hosts the annual McCracken County Fair. The week-long event includes live music, a car show, vendors, rides and a beauty pageant. The Artisan Kitchen and Crash Comics
Homeowners often walk to dining options along Broadway Street. El Torito Mexican Grill's colorful walls are adorned with Latin American artwork, and mariachi music plays on its speakers. G&O Pharmacy has served Jefferson Street residents for over 70 years. Patrons sit at the restaurant's original lunch counter and chat with the cooks while hashbrowns and burgers sizzle on the grill. The Artisan Kitchen has been one of the city's most popular bakeries and restaurants for nearly two decades. The restaurant's café offers an assortment of sandwiches and salads, and the tempting odor of fresh-baked wedding cakes and pastries wafts from the kitchen's bakery. On Jefferson Street's east end, there are unique stores. Crash Comics is a warehouse-style building full of both new and classic comic books and board games. Two blocks away, Hope's Closet is a common place for residents to thrift clothing. A grocery store called Midtown Market is a mile southwest down Broadway Street.Bob Noble Park and the Paducah Riverfront
Bob Noble Park is less than 2 miles northwest of Jefferson Street. The 135-acre green space has forested trails, baseball fields, basketball and tennis courts, a dog park, a swimming pool and a 5-acre lake with fishing piers. About a mile north of Jefferson Street, the Paducah Recreation Center has a basketball court, a stage for amateur plays and an open kitchen to all members. Local artists have decorated Paducah's Riverfront with murals chronicling the city's history from its humble beginning as an inland waterway trading hub to its rise as a railroad town in the early 20th century up to the present day.Paducah Tilghman High School is within walking distance
