Peaceful suburban living in South Palm Desert
With tranquil streets and iconic midcentury modern homes, South Palm Desert is a centrally located Palm Desert community with both seasonal and year-round residents. Home to the premier El Paseo Shopping District, residents are steps away from popular eateries, art galleries and local cafes. “Palm Desert is considered the center of the Coachella Valley,” says Fatima Nordquist, a Realtor with 20 years of experience at Power Brokers International. “People come to this area for El Paseo, and the iconic Bighorn Country Club is also just south of the shopping district.” Surrounded by golf courses, public parks, hiking trails and scenic vistas of the San Jacinto Mountains, residents in the neighborhood can easily enjoy a recreational lifestyle while enjoying the comforts of suburban living.
Classic single-story houses and condos in Palm Desert
Midcentury modern and Spanish-influenced ranch-style homes make up the area’s housing stock. “Neighborhoods here are more established with very iconic midcentury homes,” Nordquist says. These single-family homes were mostly built from the 1950s to 1970s, and many have horseshoe driveways or enclosed, gated front yards. Prices start at around $700,000 and can reach over $2 million. Lawns are often meticulously landscaped with towering palm trees and drought-tolerant plants or rocks. Most lots are about a quarter-acre to half-acre in size, with ample room for backyard pools, lounge chairs and gardens. Attached and standalone condos are typically between $550,000 and $650,000.

As for restaurants, “it’s hard to pick a favorite,” Nordquist says. “There are lots of really good places in El Paseo, but Tommy Bahama is always nice.” With colorful décor, Fresh Agave is a casual cantina serving cocktails and Mexican fare. The Shops at Palm Desert, Target and grocery stores such as Whole Foods are about a block north of the area.
