Residential options in a conveniently located neighborhood
One can find a little house in Prairie, but the small residential neighborhood also offers townhomes, condos and, most importantly, proximity to the amenities of the two cities it straddles -- Palm Springs and Lake Worth Beach. “It’s close to the ocean and not far from downtown,” says Jess Reber of Equestrian Sotheby’s International Realty, who recently sold one of Prairie’s contemporary townhomes. “The neighborhood is turning over because it’s in such a great location.”

From established ranch-style homes to contemporary townhomes
Most of the neighborhood is taken up by non-HOA Florida ranch-style homes with driveways and spacious yards. They sit just off walkable streets dotted by palm trees. Prices range from the mid-$400,000s to the high $500,000s, which is standard for this area. Recently built multi-level townhomes in the gated subdivision of Preston Square feature attached garages and recreational amenities such as a community pool. They highlight several alternative residential options. “The newer construction is generally more expensive because of the contemporary additions,” says Rhansley Sanchez, a real estate agent with CGI Realty who serves Palm Beach County, “but the older homes are still good; they’re just a little outdated.” Lakewood of Palm Springs offers established townhouses with enclosed courtyards. Smaller condos also can be found. Multi-family pricing ranges from the mid-$100,000s to the mid-$400,000s. HOA fees range from $220 to $661 a month. Flooding is not a concern, but residents should be aware that insurance rates can be affected by the risk of wind damage, especially during hurricane season.
