Lake Bernadette is a golf community near shopping and dining options
Lake Bernadette is a retreat-like community with plenty of ways to relax. The Pasco County neighborhood is home to The Links at Lake Bernadette, a golf club, and several athletic facilities. While recreation is close, so are shopping and dining options, and Lake Bernadette's multiple entrances make travel in any direction convenient. “I grew up there, and it has stood the test of time,” says Makenzie Brown, a Realtor with the Sold Sisters team at King & Associates Real Estate, which she runs with her sister, Lindsey Harrie. “It has all the amenities, and the fees have remained stable compared to other places. It’s good value for the money.”
Mediterranean Revival-style homes sit along grid-like, walkable streets
Mediterranean Revival architecture influences the community’s housing, with many properties featuring stucco exteriors and tiled roofs. Ranch-style homes can range from $210,000 to $450,000, while more traditional houses often run from $250,000 to $580,000. Sidewalks usually flank the area’s well-paved asphalt streets on at least one side, though some subdivisions like Lake Bernadette Gardens lack them. That subdivision is also grid-like, while others have curved roads and are less symmetrical. Mailboxes usually sit on posts. Front lawns commonly feature bushes and small trees, including palm trees. A community development district and a homeowner’s association oversee the neighborhood. The CDD’s annual fees are under $1,000 for most homes, while the HOA requires about $130 per quarter. Lake Bernadette has a CAP Index crime score of 2 out of 10, below the national average of 4.
The Pasco County School District and Zephyrhills Christian Academy
Students are served by the Pasco County School District. They can attend New River Elementary School, which holds a B-minus Niche grade. Raymond B. Stewart Middle School receives a C. Zephyrhills High School offers the Early College Program, which students can use to earn a high school diploma and an associate degree simultaneously. It gets a B-minus rating. Florida’s school choice programs allow families to send children to academies outside their zone, including private and charter schools, and receive scholarships. Nearby Zephyrhills Christian Academy, for kindergarten through 12th grade, earns an A-minus from Niche.
Neighborhood athletic facilities and a nearby fishing spot
The Links of Lake Bernadette has greeted golfers with pine trees and smooth fairways since 1980. The course offers public tee times as well as various membership options. The Lake Bernadette Community Center provides residents with two pools, a fitness center and pickleball, tennis and basketball courts. A few miles east, anglers can catch largemouth bass and tilapia in Zephyr Park's lake. The area also has horseshoe pits, picnic areas, a walking trail and handball and tennis courts. Next to the park is Waterplay, a large splash pad.
International cuisine and big-box stores are a short drive away
Several restaurants sit along Pure Water Way just outside the neighborhood. Best Thai & Sushi serves modern fusion cuisine. Sergio’s Restaurant & Pizzeria has traditional pizza and pasta in a casual environment. Silva’s Coffee Grind makes New York-style breakfast sandwiches and offers an extensive drink menu. Winn-Dixie and Publix Super Market are within a few miles, as are Dollar General and Ace Hardware. Zephyrhills has retail stores like Bealls and Ross Dress for Less.
Access to Tampa, but hurricane prep can be necessary
Pure Water Way is the neighborhood’s southeastern edge and can take drivers into the heart of Zephyrhills, around 4 miles east, or west toward Wesley Chapel and Interstate 75, around 10 miles away. Downtown Tampa is just over a 30-mile drive, while Tampa International Airport is close to 40 miles away. The area can feel the effects of hurricanes, but Brown says it is far enough inland that any damage sustained is usually mild. “We watch the storms and see what is going to happen,” Brown says. “True Floridians will only board up windows on the side the wind is coming from. We’re a ride-it-out crew.”
The community hosts annual and weekly events at its clubhouse
The community hosts weekly get-togethers like poker nights, board game sessions and aqua aerobics classes. “The CDD director does a great job with programming,” Brown says. “They bring in food trucks. Santa comes to visit around Christmas. People can also rent out the clubhouse, and it's gorgeous.”
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
