Lake Nacimiento
Water recreation on the lake, with private amenities for Heritage Ranch residents
Water recreation is the focus of daily life in Lake Nacimiento. The lake offers 5,000 surface acres of water and 165 miles of shoreline, with plenty of coves and inlets to explore. “You can wake board, wake surf, water ski, inner tube and paddle board,” Caro says. “There’s bass fishing, lots of pontoon boats and even cigar boats out here. We have lots of bald eagles on the lake, so you can paddle out or take your boat out and you’ll see their nests all along the lakeside.” The mountainous terrain lined with oak and pine trees also offers opportunities for residents to view other types of wildlife, including deer, elk and wild boar. The main marina, set in the northeast corner of the greater Lake Nacimiento community, is open to the public and offers boat rentals; half a dozen campgrounds surround the marina at Lake Nacimiento Resort. Within Heritage Ranch, meanwhile, residents have access to their own private boat ramps, as well two swimming pools, pickleball courts, baseball fields, a dog park and an equestrian center.A diverse housing scene to meet a variety of budgets and lifestyles
“Heritage Ranch is divided into sections by acreage,” Caro says. “We have 20, 10, 5, 1 and less than 1-acre sections. Each section has their own gated entries.” Within these sections, homes date from the late 20th century to recent years, and undeveloped lots enable custom builds.“There’s all sorts of different housing options that can accommodate a lot of different price points,” Ryder says. “If you have a big family, if you’re single, if you’re retired, there’s a property for you.” Modest single-family residences on small lots can be found for around $400,000, while larger estates with more acreage can cost up to $2 million; many of the latter are equestrian properties with large garages for RVs and boats. Manufactured homes start at around 1,200 square feet and $300,000, while larger units can go for $550,000. Modest lakeside, apartment-style condominiums under 800 square feet start at around $250,000, and larger units with private entries range to about $575,000.
A local grocery store near locally owned restaurants
Residents can pick up groceries at locally owned staple Oak Hill Market, which includes a deli counter, bakery and ready-to-eat hot meals. Next door, Orange Cat Organic Cafe is a casual stop for sandwiches, breakfast and baked goods. Ryder says that Rock'N'Robles Grill & Pizza Kitchen, the local go-to for bar fare and brews, "is a 'Cheers' kind of place, because everybody there knows everybody, and everybody knows your name.” Paso Robles has more dining options, along with retailers like Kohl's, T.J. Maxx and Target.Career courses at Paso Robles High
