Make way for horses and buggies in rural Lancaster County
Walking into a diner or tractor supply store in The Buck, it’s hard not to see a familiar face — or at least a friendly one. Located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, houses in this small neighborhood are few and far between. Most residents own several acres, and four-legged neighbors like cows and horses are common. “It still has that Amish country feel to it,” says Katie Hall, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway. Drivers keep a careful eye out for horses and buggies on the roads, waving hello as they pass.
Split levels and ranch-styles with enough room for chickens
Although there’s plenty of undeveloped land in The Buck, buyers looking to put down roots on more populated streets will find a diverse array of housing styles ranging from manufactured homes, split-levels and Cape Cods to larger colonials. The average home value hovers under $400,000, but four-bedroom vinyl-sided subdivisions can sell for upwards of $600,000. It’s common practice for residents to keep animals in these parts, and drivers on The Buck’s quiet streets will spot chickens, cows and horses.
