From orchards to airstrips in Pecan Plantation
Pecan Plantation was once home to thousands of pecan orchards growing on the banks of the Brazos River. Today, it has become one of the most desirable areas in Granbury, with private access to multiple golf courses, a marina and airstrips for small aircraft on the agricultural flats of North Central Texas. “I’m looking at the Brazos River and the gorgeous pecan trees right now from a back porch. We have a very pretty view," says Cathy Waters, Realtor at The Property Shop, who has experience as a resident and selling homes in Pecan Plantation. "This is an amazing neighborhood. I could go on all day long about how great Pecan Plantation is. It is such a quiet and peaceful area surrounded by nature."
Spacious homes with hangars and pools line the shaded streets
The streets are bordered by large sprawling homes on spacious lots shaded by pecan and live oak trees. The area’s architecture primarily includes custom-built New Traditional and ranch-style homes, ranging from $230,000 to $1.6 million. Many houses are as recent as the 2020s with swimming pools and private airplane hangars. "You can take off from here and go wherever. We really have everything. It is beyond a neighborhood," says Juliet Smith, a Realtor at The Property Shop and President of the neighborhood's fire and EMS department. Home prices vary depending on hangar capabilities, home size and land. The average single-family home size is over 2,500 square feet, and the median lot size is over a quarter-acre. Condos cost between $200,000 and $400,000. Like most of North Texas, Granbury is in Tornado Alley, which faces extreme storms and high winds from the Gulf of Mexico.
Two golf clubs and a marina on Lake Granbury
The Pecan Plantation Country Club has an 18-hole golf course, as does the private Nutcracker Golf Club, which includes a fitness center. Residents can access the Pecan Stables equestrian center, which provides horse stables and riding facilities. The Pecan Activity Center has two resort-style swimming pools and outdoor facilities like a dog park, tennis and pickleball courts. Lake Granbury Marina is the most significant waterway, with a private boat ramp and fishing docks, as Lake Granbury has largemouth bass and catfish.
Granbury ISD supports military families and hands-on learning
The Granbury Independent School District serves more than 7,500 students and has an open enrollment program, so that non-resident students can apply to attend. The STEAM Academy at Mambrino Elementary School earns an A-minus grade from Niche, with team-based coursework in hard skills. Like most schools in the district, Mambrino Elementary is a designated Purple Star Campus because it supports many military-connected families. Granbury Middle School has a B and an AVID elective, providing students with leadership skills and resources to learn about college opportunities. Granbury High School receives a B-plus, with many extracurricular activities, including the Stowaways drill team and a Marine Corps JROTC program. It also has a WIT program for hands-on industry training in STEM subjects.
Marina-front restaurants and supermarkets inside the gates
Pecan Plantation features multiple dining establishments and shopping areas, all easily accessible inside the community's gates. "We have a grocery store, a charcuterie place and a coffee shop. You literally don’t have to leave the neighborhood," Smith says. The Pecan Pit Bar and Grill serves burgers, brisket and tacos with lake views at the community marina. The 19th Hole is a lunch restaurant at the country club. Also nearby, the Village Bistro serves subs and Italian dishes like calzones and pizza. Pecan Foods is the community supermarket on Plantation Drive. Granbury is about 13 miles northwest, known for its downtown area with various restaurants, supermarkets and theaters.
Highway 377 connects residents to Fort Worth and Dallas
There are several ways to enter Pecan Plantation, each being heavily secured. "We have manned gates, so you don’t just push a button or fly in," Smith says. "We have our own security, fire department and EMS squad." U.S. Highway 377 is the area’s main expressway to the Metroplex. Fort Worth is about 40 miles northeast on US-377, and Dallas is around 70 miles northeast. The Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is approximately 65 miles from Pecan Plantation.
