Origin of Hollywood Pines
When Pembroke Pines became a city in 1960, the Hollywood Pines neighborhood was the original square mile of land that was the city, with expansion gradually taking place to the west. “Many of the houses in Hollywood Pines are older single-family homes,” says Silvana Carlotto, a commercial and business broker with the Cardenas Group Realty. “The houses are well maintained and updated. Plus, it’s in a good location—only 7 miles to the beach, close to I-95 and Florida’s Turnpike.” Hollywood Pines is next to an airport and small four-year Broward College.

Air traffic is close
Just to the west of the houses in Hollywood Pines is North Perry Airport, meaning that some air traffic noise could be a prominent feature. It’s a facility that’s dedicated to private and business light-plane activity. Flight instruction takes place at this airport, serving as a congestion reliever for small plane traffic at Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood and Miami International Airports. Close to the airport is Broward College-South Campus. Its location makes sense since the campus is home to the school’s Aviation Institute. The school’s campus spans over 100 acres, with a library and athletic fields.
Homes dating to the city’s origin
With Hollywood Pines being the first area of Pembroke Pines, most of the houses were built in the 1960s. They are ranch-style or Minimal Traditional with between 1,000 and 2.000 square feet. Some have a circular driveway and a pool in the backyard. There are sometimes carports on the property or a driveway and no garage. Some have a garage, but anything more than one-car is rare. The price range is between $400,000 and $600,000, and three bedrooms are standard. The narrow streets have plenty of sidewalks, and oak and palm trees are prominent. Eighty-six percent of the people in Hollywood Pines are homeowners.
