A narrow strip of homes and businesses outside of Hanover
Pennville sits just outside downtown Hanover, Pa., and encompasses much of the residential suburbs that stretch to the rolling hills beyond. “Pennville is really just a small extension of Hanover along Frederick Street,” says Christine Dell, a Hanover resident and Realtor with Re/Max Quality Service. “It’s close to the Maryland border, so you’ll actually meet a lot of people who commute across the state line because it’s a lot cheaper here.” While the neighborhood itself is mainly comprised of homes and businesses where people live and work, residents are within arm's reach of Hanover's quaint town center and all the amenities surrounding it, including parks, golf courses and shopping malls. Homes come in a variety of styles, from $150,000 townhouses to $300,000-plus American Foursquares and Colonial Revivals. This area is also known as a haven for golf courses.
New and established homes from Hanover’s residential sprawl
Most homes in Pennville were built between the 1950s and ’80s, with a few exceptions. “Hanover is a pretty old town, so there are some homes in Pennville that are over 100 years old, but there’s a couple of new subdivisions too,” Dell says. American Foursquares and Colonial Revivals with a proud, rectangular silhouette line Frederick Street in tidy rows, with front porches overlooking the sidewalk. Other ranch-style homes, split-levels and cottages are tucked off of Westminster Avenue, a one-lane road that runs north-south through town. These tend to have spacious lawns with mature trees, though occasional new developments have even larger lots and two-story homes with only a few young saplings dotting the yard. There is a small handful of townhouses, which can sell for $150,000 for three bedrooms, whereas a single-family home with the same number of bedrooms can be priced up to $335,000.
