Downtown also plays host to a wide variety of events throughout the year. “Every May there’s the American Graffiti Car Show,” says Hecker. “The movie was filmed here and the event brings hundreds of old cars and hot rods cruising through town.” In April and September, the Petaluma Antique Fair draws shoppers downtown to peruse the booths and buy vintage furniture, decor and clothing.

Parks dot the residential streets of Western Petaluma, and most locals are within a mile of the nearest recreation area. McNear Park has a playground, picnic tables, tennis courts and baseball diamonds.
