Historic charm and downtown access in Western Petaluma

Between a charming shopping district and the rolling hills of Sonoma County, Western Petaluma offers established tree-shaded streets, hillside views and quick access to downtown Petaluma. Well-maintained sidewalks lead to local restaurants, green spaces and waterfront businesses on the Petaluma River. “The west end is the original side of Petaluma,” says Douglas Hecker, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty who has lived in the area for over 50 years. “You’ll see historic buildings, turn-of-the-century homes and community charm. It’s close to downtown, which is super vibrant with a lot of preserved historic buildings. Plus, you have spectacular views of the Sonoma Mountains serving as a constant backdrop.”

Turn of the century architecture and walkable residential streets

The housing market in Western Petaluma is wide ranging, from 1890s Victorian cottages and craftsman-style bungalows to luxury Mediterranean-inspired homes and high-end historical estates. Most homes sit close together on small lots with fenced-in back yards, while some properties on the high end of the market reach a half-acre and beyond. Quaint cottages and single-story builds range from $650,000 to around $920,000, while larger homes and properties with high-end amenities and spacious lots can go for $930,000 to $2.8 million. “The residential streets in Western Petaluma are very walkable,” Hecker says. “D street is a really popular spot on Halloween. You have old school Victorians and colonial homes that are decked out for the holiday. Kids from across the city will come for the decorations and to get full-sized candy bars.”
