Cedarbrook
Neighborhood in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Philadelphia County 19150

A mix of home styles
The neighborhood is lined with blocks of row houses and twins, a mix of traditional brick architecture and charming English cottage styles with stone siding. “Most of the homes in Cedarbrook were built between the 1930s and 1950s. A lot of them have been renovated. It is a competitive market because people know they will get their money’s worth here. The inventory is quite limited,” says Wayns.Sitting atop elevated front yards, many of Cedarbrook’s homes have welcoming front porches and small grassy areas or gardens where residents can enjoy sunny days and neighborly chats. Some rowhomes also come with decks facing back alleyways for more outdoor relaxation. Driveways and attached garages in the back provide off-street parking. Small single-family homes, such as ranch-styles and Cape Cods, with bigger yards and more greenery, are blended into this urban neighborhood, providing a more suburban feel. Single-family homes range from about $400,000 to $600,000, while rowhomes and twins go for around $200,000 to $400,000. Each block is lined with sidewalks, allowing for leisurely strolls through the neighborhood.
Parks, playgrounds and stadiums
Finley Playground is a 6.6-acre site just outside the community. The open space has plenty of playground equipment, sports fields, a sprinkler for hot summer days and basketball and tennis courts. Nearby Water Tower Recreation Center is a 2-acre park built on a former reservoir site. The facility houses six tennis courts, a batting cage, a hockey rink, basketball courts and two ball fields. Residents can walk to Benjamin Johnston Memorial Stadium, which has a track open to the public.Grants help improve school

The school has received several grants to enhance its cultural and academic programs. Martin Luther King High School has a D-plus rating. The school has a 12-1 student-teacher ratio. For those who prefer private education, LaSalle College High School is just outside the neighborhood. The school has an A-plus rating from Niche and a 100% graduation rate.Cemeteries and churches
Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church is a significant fixture in the community. The church, which has a congregation of more than 10,000, provides the community with multiple outreach and youth programs, including a drill team, football club and both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts units. Cedarbrook is also home to Ivy Hill Cemetery, which stands out with its tall, stone gothic archway. The scenic cemetery was established in 1867 and offers a beautiful landscape of grassy fields and trees. It is also the final resting place of several notable people, including Sister Sledge’s Joni Sledge, known for the famous hit song “We Are Family” and Smokin’ Joe Frazier, whose tombstone features a life-size portrait of the heavyweight champion.Getting around Cedarbrook
