A riverfront community with historic homes and ample restaurants
Pennsport is a densely populated urban community along the western banks of the Delaware River. Trendy taprooms, cafes, and restaurants chronicle the community's gradual revitalization, settling between an established set of historic row homes. Pennsport is a few blocks from the annual Mummers Parade, a large-scale Philadelphia event with bedazzled dancers and lively musicians. "This is a nice area with homes at a good price point," says Realtor Ben Hooson-Jones of KW Empower. Hooson-Jones has sold homes in the area for just over six years. "You get more bang for your buck in this area. Plus, you can easily access 95 and the rest of the city."
Pasta at Aroma and coffee at Herman's
Locally-owned businesses are cropping up amid the community's growth, including small cafés and restaurants. Businesses hug street corners at the end of residential strips, within walking distance of many residents. Locals walk over to Herman's Coffee for a pick-me-up or to grab a few goods from the adjacent market. Herman's also hosts food-centric events several times a week, promoting local businesses. Another early morning favorite is Cake and Joe, featuring espresso drinks and various cakes. Aroma on 3rd is a popular spot for Italian dishes, and Taste of Punjab is a local favorite for Indian cuisine. There are also a few nearby spots where locals enjoy a drink, like Pennsport Beer Boutique. Or locals head next door to Jaxx Steaks Taproom for a sandwich or a beer. Locals mostly head to Christopher Columbus Boulevard when they need to shop. Shoppers will find big box stores like Target and ACME Market.
Pennsport is a few steps from the annual Mummer's Parade
Pennsport is a key participant in the city-wide Mummers Parade. The folk parade is the oldest of its kind in America and is one of the biggest events in Eastern Philly. Over 10,000 participants gear up in colorful costumes to do the "Mummers Strut" down Broad Street. The family-friendly event takes place every year on New Year's.
100-year-old row homes dot the community
Century-old row homes flank narrow, sidewalk-lined streets, comprising most of Pennsport's housing set. Several Colonial-era row homes stand three stories tall with brick facades and small front steps that lead directly to the sidewalk. Most residents park on the street with a permit, but a few homes have street-level garages. Housing prices scale a wide range. Some of the area's older homes needing repairs cost between $200,000 and $500,000. Renovated or flipped homes have higher price tags, ranging from $600,000 to $1 million. "The housing market is doing very good right now, especially this area and surrounding neighborhoods," Hooson-Jones says.

Locals frequently stop by the Delaware River Trail and walk up the spiraling staircase at Washington Avenue Green for views of Battleship New Jersey and the Benjamin Franklin Bridge in the distance.

And if locals want to take a train, several stations line South Broad Street. Interstate 95 runs through the community, so locals can easily access the highway.
