North Central Phoenix draws homebuyers who want the outdoors close by without giving up city amenities. Parks, hiking trails and golf courses are all a few minutes away, so there are plenty of ways to stay active. Nearby shopping centers and restaurants cover everyday needs, and Interstate 17 and state Route 51 open up the rest of the valley.
Housing comes in many forms in this part of Phoenix, and prices vary just as much. Single-family homes include everything from midcentury ranch-style designs to New Traditional-style houses built in the 2020s. Most sales range from the mid-$200,000s to the low $800,000s, but custom builds with elevated views top out at nearly $3.7 million.
Condos and townhouses are also available, and prices generally run from the mid-$100,000s to the upper $500,000s. Manufactured homes sell from around $10,000 to the mid-$300,000s, depending on whether the land is included. The overall median sale price is around $400,000, below the citywide figure.
Outdoor recreation is easy to come by in North Central Phoenix, where green space and mountain trails are never far. Deer Valley Park draws steady crowds with a three-section dog park, picnic areas, playgrounds and multiple athletic fields, along with a pool and a community center. Each summer, it hosts After Dark in the Park, an evening event with music and a drone light show.
A little farther east, the Summit Trail at Lookout Mountain Park climbs about 475 feet in just over half a mile, opening up to wide views of the valley at the top. Golf factors in here, too. "If you're a golfer, you'll think you landed in heaven," says James Balko, a Realtor with Century 21 Arizona Foothills. “There are public and private golf clubs in every direction, all with spectacular views, of course.”
Families are served by the Washington Elementary School District and the Glendale Union High School District. Some kids go to Lookout Mountain Elementary School, which earns an A-minus from Niche. Thunderbird High School offers honors and Advanced Placement courses and also has an A-minus Niche rating. Arizona also allows students to apply to schools outside their attendance boundaries, including schools in other districts.

While Valley Metro bus service is available, most people rely on cars for travel. The community has quick access to both Loop 101 and Interstate 17, making commuting around the valley relatively straightforward. Downtown Phoenix is less than 20 miles south, and Old Town Scottsdale is roughly 25 miles away.
