Suburban living in the village of Phoenix

Phoenix is a suburban village about 25 miles outside of the Windy City. It was named by an early developer who fell in love with Phoenix, Arizona, and the origin of this small area is tied heavily to the adjacent neighborhood, Harvey. Harvey, aiming to develop a model Christian community that prohibited the consumption and sale of alcohol, found itself in a dilemma when Phoenix built five saloons, and so the controversy began. The two neighborhoods began a battle between wet and dry, which resulted in Phoenix’s favor in 1900. Now that the question of to drink or not to drink is resolved, residents have put their energy into revitalizing this community. Local expert, Wendy Lee of Exit Realty Redefined, says that “Phoenix is changing very quickly,” with a recent focus on improving infrastructure throughout the area. Because of this revitalization, the neighborhood has seen an increase in property values in recent years. Phoenix also sits close to grocery stores, public schools, restaurants and a hospital, providing residents with comforts and necessities in a quiet, suburban zone.

Diverse home styles and prices in Phoenix

Homebuyers can find a blend of architectural styles in the properties that line the sidewalks of this community. There are many $50,000 to $200,000 raised ranch styles, bungalows with sloped roofs, as well as smaller Craftsman homes that exhibit natural elements, such as wood beams or stone exteriors. There are bi-level brick homes with attached garages, and many homes have driveways, though ample street parking is also available. As the village has started to become more popular, larger townhouses and Craftsman homes continue to pop up on Phoenix’s map. “There have been a few new constructions in the area that are pricing in the upper $300,000 range,” Lee says.

I like my city, they welcomed me with opened arms. The best experience was when I moved in, you would have thought it was out of movies my neighbors greeted me with open arms. I thought I was in Arkansas the people friendly and helpful. Everyone looks out for each other and you know who is who in your village.
