Pine Beach began as a resort and still embraces the water
Located just minutes from the commercial hub of Toms River and across the Barnegat Bay from the Jersey Shore, the small borough of Pine Beach invites you to live at the junction of Ocean County’s greatest features.
Pine Beach, like many of its neighboring waterfront towns, is a relatively recently-established community. From 1909 to 1910, developer Charles M. Horter invested $10,000 into transforming a stretch of waterfront property along the Toms River into a resort town complete with graded avenues, a train station, and a clubhouse for lot buyers. The town’s historic yacht club opened in 1916, and its building – which has seen use as an election hall, police station, gas station, theater, dance hall, and many other purposes – is a living testimony to Pine Beach’s evolution.

Vintage and waterfront homes at lower Shore prices
The quiet borough is teeming with vintage houses, including ranch-style homes, bungalows, and Colonial Revivals built before World War II, as well as recent construction along the waterfront. Prices typically range from $350,000 to $500,000, marking this borough as one of the least expensive communities on the Jersey Shore. Some larger, more expensive houses are also available, ranging from $600,000 to $1.4 million. “The most popular reason people live here,” Realtor Jim Flanagan says, “is because you’re near the gateway to the Jersey Shore. In order to get to Island Beach State Park, Seaside Park, Seaside Heights, and Lavalette, you have to cross over the bridge.” Proximity to some of the Jersey Shore’s greatest attractions is just one of the locational factors driving Pine Beach’s popularity with homebuyers. Flanagan says, “You’re also perfectly located one hour south of New York City, one hour east of Philadelphia, and one hour north of Atlantic City.”

Lamppost Bistro Bar & Lounge serves kosher eats within a traditional steakhouse setting, with a menu offering delicacies from pan-seared salmon to steak frites and veal chops. Miss Mindy’s Homemade Ice Cream just up the road offers several flavors of fresh, handmade ice cream and ice cream cakes.
