About Pine Beach, NJ

About Pine Beach, NJ

Located just minutes from the commercial hub of Toms River and across the Barnegat Bay from the Jersey Shore, the small borough of Pine Beach invites you to live at the junction of Ocean County’s greatest features.

Pine Beach, like many of its neighboring waterfront towns, is a relatively recently-established community. From 1909 to 1910, developer Charles M. Horter invested $10,000 into transforming a stretch of waterfront property along the Toms River into a resort town complete with graded avenues, a train station, and a clubhouse for lot buyers. The town’s historic yacht club opened in 1916, and its building – which has seen use as an election hall, police station, gas station, theater, dance hall, and many other purposes – is a living testimony to Pine Beach’s evolution.

Today, Pine Beach is a quiet borough teeming with vintage homes, including ranch-style homes, bungalows, and colonials built in the years before World War II, as well as recent construction along the waterfront. Homes in Pine Beach vary in price from $350,000 to $550,000, marking this borough as one of the least expensive communities on the Jersey Shore. “The most popular reason people live here,” Realtor Jim Flanagan says, “is because you’re near the gateway to the Jersey Shore. In order to get to Island Beach State Park, Seaside Park, Seaside Heights, and Lavalette, you have to cross over the bridge.” Proximity to some of the Jersey Shore’s greatest attractions is just one of the locational factors driving Pine Beach’s popularity with homebuyers. Flanagan says, “You’re also perfectly located one hour south of New York City, one hour east of Philadelphia, and one hour north of Atlantic City.”

Pine Beach is primarily residential; the borough consists of grid-lined streets and avenues, while Atlantic City Boulevard, at the town’s southern end, serves as the main thoroughfare for residents living along the south bank of the Toms River. It is along this road that this community’s unique food scene can be found. Lamppost Bistro Bar & Lounge serves kosher eats within a traditional steakhouse setting, with a menu offering delicacies from pan-seared salmon to steak frites and veal chops. If you’re in the mood for a delicious treat on a hot summer’s day, visit Miss Mindy’s Homemade Ice Cream just up the road and enjoy several flavors of fresh, handmade ice cream, or pick up an ice cream cake to sweeten a special occasion.

As a neighborhood with direct access to the Toms River, Pine Beach not only offers scenic views of the water from Vista Park, but is also home to piers and marinas for fishing and boating. Summer is also the perfect occasion to head down to the beach, whether you’re visiting the quiet Beachwood Beach next door or making the 20-minute drive to Long Beach Island to relax in style.

Equally remarkable is the public education. Students mingle within diverse classroom settings at Pine Beach Elementary School and Toms River Intermediate School South, while Toms River High School South has consistently ranked among the state’s best high schools, with an impressive average SAT score of 1150 and strong athletics.

Easy access to the Garden State Parkway enables commutes into both New York City and Philadelphia within an hour and a half, offering a wealth of commuting and work options.

If you desire plenty of opportunities for relaxing and commuting alike, drop your anchor at Pine Beach.
