Housing development punctuated by green spaces
Located in the lower Mount Diablo foothills, Oak Hills is a tranquil neighborhood with rolling landscapes, parks and major roadways. The residential community is connected by plenty of sidewalks in the northern half, while the southern portion is primarily undeveloped. The welcoming community rests midway between San Francisco and Stockton, and some homes have views of the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. “I think one of the biggest draws to the neighborhood is how nice people are,” says Marta Collazos, a Realtor and broker in the Bay Area since 1998. “My clients got to meet some of the neighbors before they bought their house there, and everyone was so friendly.”

Trails, playgrounds and athletic courts
Oak Hills Park is split into two sections with a short, paved trail connecting them. Both parts have views of the surrounding Mt. Diablo foothills and nearby Suisun Bay. The larger portion of the park has two playgrounds, one for toddlers and one for school-age children. Athletes can choose from the half-basketball court, tennis court or paved trail for a workout. The smaller portion also has a playground, along with picnic tables and benches. Ray Giacomelli Park may be small, but it packs in a ton of fun. A large playground sits in the center, inviting children to climb, slide and swing. A paved pathway that’s popular with joggers circles the park. Just over 3 miles north, the Bay Point Regional Shoreline lets visitors explore undeveloped marshes via hiking trails.

Highway 4, a BART station and traffic noise
Oak Hills is a car-dependent community, although there are sidewalks in the residential area and a bike lane on West Leland Road. Highway 4 serves as the neighborhood’s northern boundary and passes through towns like Antioch and Martinez. Bus stops are scattered along West Leland and Bailey Roads, not far from the Pittsburg/Bay Point BART station on Highway 4. Those living near the highway will hear traffic noise during heavy travel times. The neighborhood is 8 miles from Concord Medical Center, 10 miles from Sutter Delta Medical Center and 38 miles from Oakland International Airport. Wildfires, air quality warnings and a natural gas plant
Keller Canyon Landfill is immediately east of Oak Hills. The site is now home to California's largest natural gas conversion facility. The plant collects landfill gases and changes them to clean-burning natural gas. It’s estimated to reduce carbon emissions by over 62,000 metric tons. That’s good news for a neighborhood like Oak Hills, which has more than 15 days of poor air quality each year. The area is also at increased risk of wildfires. Contra Costa County advises residents to keep flammable debris away from their homes and to have evacuation routes planned.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
