Mt Oliver
Neighborhood in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Allegheny County 15210
Mostly lined with single-family homes
Despite its name, the Mount Oliver neighborhood is separate from the adjacent Mount Oliver Borough. Southeast of downtown, Mount Oliver lies on hills dense with single-family homes, generally with two to three bedrooms, which means homes have modest yards decorated minimally with bushes and the occasional tree. “It’s a mostly residential area where they have some ranches and bungalows. Simple styles,” says Bryan Reilly, Realtor at RE/MAX Citylife. According to Fitzgerald, many of the older homes, some of which are nearly 100 years old, have bigger rooms, large front porches and attics. Medium lot sizes are 3,049 square feet with 1,482-square-foot homes. He adds that Mount Oliver has several renters due to property investors taking advantage of the lower housing costs in the neighborhood, which also drives down rental prices. Mount Oliver also has a lower tax base than the surrounding boroughs. He says this trend took hold about seven years ago. There are also a handful of multi-family options. As for price points, a brick ranch-style may range from $69,000 to $115,000, while vinyl bungalows may cost $56,000 to $120,000. For fans of covered front porches, brick American Foursquares may go for $128,000 to $195,000. Brick Cape Cods may sell for $170,000 to $216,000. Overall, prices throughout the housing stock are between $21,000 to $254,000.Farmland serves food desert areas
