A master-planned exurb in Yuba County

Despite the name, Plumas Lake is a dry-land, master-planned community in Yuba County. The community is built on the bottom of a lake that dried up years prior to development. This exurb is sought out for its comfortable homes, which are more affordable than the homes available in Sacramento. Many homeowners buy in Plumas Lake with plans to commute into a larger city.

Modern Traditional homes of Plumas Lake

Plumas Lake was master-planned and built out by a developer, so the community has a uniform look. Modern Traditional homes with Spanish elements like stucco and tile roofs sit side by side on neat green lawns. Sidewalks trace past these homes, connecting neighbors. “It’s mostly newer homes,” says Desiree Hastey, owner and broker at Plumas Lake Properties, who has been selling homes in the area for over ten years. “The oldest house in Plumas Lake was built in 2004.” Plumas Lake houses sell from $400,000 to $660,000, depending on the size of the house and its yard. “It’s a more affordable area than Sacramento or Roseville, so a lot of people who work in Sacramento or Roseville buy in Plumas Lake,” says Janae Morris, Realtor with Nexthome Campbell Realty who has previously worked in the area. “You can get a nice home at a great price, and it’s easy to commute.”

Commutable to Sacramento or Roseville

Residents will need a car to get around, and state Route 70 runs down the center of the community. This highway leads 12 miles north to Yuba City or 30-plus miles south to Sacramento or Roseville. “It’s an attractive area for commuters,” says Morris. “A lot of people would consider it an easy commute to Sacramento or Roseville.”

Traveling out of Plumas Lake for shopping and dining

“The one downside is that there really aren’t amenities,” says Hastey. “There’s no grocery store, so be prepared to drive. There’s a Costco about 15 minutes up the road where a lot of people like to stock up.” The Costco in Linda is 10 miles north. Visitors will also find local and chain restaurants.
