Northeast Pocatello offers green space and urban accessibility

Northeast Pocatello is a large suburban region of the city, full of residential streets and parks. “You’ll see lots of runners and walkers outside, and people are very neighborly and friendly,” says Gloria Howell with Gate City Real Estate, who has lived in Pocatello for over 50 years. “You don’t have to go far for hikes and bike trails — it’s like we have recreation grounds in our backyards.” Additionally, the neighborhood sits right off two major interstates near most of the city’s big-box stores, bringing convenience to this side of town.

A range of housing styles from the 20th and 21st centuries

Residential streets in Northeast Pocatello come in a variety of layouts. Some roads, typically toward the center of the neighborhood, are densely packed with bungalows and ranch-style homes built in the mid-to-late 1900s. Newer areas feature freshly paved sidewalks and green lawns fronting homes with New Traditional architecture. These lots are more spread out, though close enough together to maintain a neighborly feel. Houses often sell between $250,000 and $450,000, but outliers fall on both ends of the range.

Outdoor adventures at community parks and extensive mountain trails

Most homes are within walking distance of a park or recreation space. N.O.P. Park features a soccer field and baseball diamonds, while Ammon Park is an open green area with a playground and barbecues. Alameda Park also has picnic tables, a basketball court and horseshoe pits. Another nearby attraction is the Portneuf Wellness Complex. “It’s a large park that was put together by the Portneuf Medical Center that they then gifted to the city,” Howell says. “It’s got a pond they stuff with trout, trails, covered tables for picnicking, and there's even mounds for four-wheeling.” Residents are 5 miles from the trails meandering through the Portneuf Range of the Rocky Mountains and 2 miles from the Highland Golf Course, which is open to the public.

Shopping essentials off Yellowstone and restaurants within minutes

Northeast Pocatello houses most of the city’s big-box shopping. Plazas off Yellowstone Avenue have grocers and department stores ranging from Costco and Walmart to WinCo Foods. The area also has many chain restaurants. “It’s mostly fast food up there, but you’re under 5 miles from downtown, and if the roads aren’t icy, you can get anywhere in five to 10 minutes,” Howell says. Some restaurants sit along Oak Street, like Palate Neighborhood Bistro for American classics.

Numerous paths in the Pocatello-Chubbuck School District

Students are zoned for schools based on their home address. Many children in the northern part of the area attend Syringa Elementary, which earns a B rating from Niche, before heading to Alameda Middle, which has a B-plus score. In the southern part of the neighborhood, students go to B-rated Washington Elementary and Franklin Middle, which has a B-plus. Most students finish at Century High, which scores a B-plus, or take career and technical education classes on a separate campus. Students can apply to any school in the district, regardless of their zone. Idaho State University is a couple of miles south and is known for having some of the state's top medical and health science programs.

Public transit options and proximity to medical care

Northeast Pocatello sits right along the intersection of Interstate 15 and Interstate 86. Pocatello Regional Transit buses also stop throughout the area. The Pocatello Regional Airport, 8 miles away, offers daily flights to Salt Lake City, serviced by Delta. Health care isn’t far, with the Portneuf Medical Center within 5 miles of most residences.
