Phillips Ranch
Midcentury ranch-style homes, Mediterranean houses and condos in Phillips Ranch
In the southwest corner of Pomona, Phillips Ranch is composed of cul-de-sacs and sprawling subdivisions on hilly terrain. Here the front yards have enough space for garden beds, often landscaped with palm trees and rose bushes. The backyards usually have enough room for pools or patios. Many homes offer views of the Pomona Valley or the San Gabriel Mountains. Because development started in the 1960s, much of the neighborhood’s architecture is midcentury, although there are some newer options from the 1980s. Mediterranean homes and midcentury ranch-style homes range from $850,000 to $1.2 million. Condos go from $550,000 to $650,000. Those interested should keep an eye on the market for their ideal home style. “There's not a lot of inventory. At any given time, there are maybe five to 10 homes for sale,” says Realtor Ty Courtney Wallace, who works with Coldwell Banker Tri-Counties and has over three decades of experience.Phillips Ranch Park, Country Crossing Park and many trails
Designed for walkability to outdoor recreation, Phillips Ranch has a network of centrally located parks. Phillips Ranch Park features a picnic pavilion, a playground with a rock-climbing wall and a dog park with an obstacle course. This park also has a paved walking path that connects to Country Crossing Park, which has a sports field and picnic areas. It has another pathway that links to the Phillips Ranch Riparian Greenbelt, a tree-lined footpath for walking and running. In the northern part of Phillips Ranch, the Eagle Scout Trail is a 3-mile out-and-back nature hike with views of the San Gabriel Mountains. The hilly terrain is ideal for wildlife spotting, including coyotes and snakes.Restaurants and stores in the Pomona Ranch Plaza big box center
The Pomona Ranch Plaza shopping mall, in the southeastern corner of the community, is the area’s main retail hub. It features diverse restaurants, including the relaxed Japanese spot J Sushi & Ramen and the fast casual Crimson Coward, which serves hot chicken. Chain options include IHOP and Starbucks. For groceries, locals can go to WinCo Foods or Walmart. The neighborhood sits about 3 miles south of downtown Pomona for quick access to nightlife, museums and boutiques.Well-rated Pomona Unified public schools, including Diamond Ranch High School
Depending on their addresses, students go to different public schools within the Pomona Unified School District. Some of these include Ranch Hills Elementary School, which has a B-plus on Niche; Lorbeer Middle School, which earns a B; and A-minus Diamond Ranch High School. The high school offers CTE courses, including game design, hospitality and athletic training. Its unique expressionist modern style and mountain views have been used as a set location for movies, including “Live Free or Die Hard” and “Serenity.” For higher education, there’s Mt. San Antonio College and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, nearby.Attractions: Phillips Mansion and The Fox Theater Pomona
Located in the northwestern part of Phillips Ranch, Phillips Mansion is a Second Empire-style history museum and the former home of Louis Phillips. Here visitors can tour the mansion and the Currier House, a ranch built in 1907. At The Fox Theater Pomona, about 3 miles north of the neighborhood, locals can see concerts in a repurposed Art Deco movie theater.About 20 miles to Anaheim and 30 miles to downtown Los Angeles
“The main appeal is a good location: you can get to Orange County or LA County,” Wallace says. Phillips Ranch is a car-dependent neighborhood about 30 miles away from downtown Los Angeles via state Route 60. State Route 57 goes to Anaheim, located about 20 miles away. For public transportation, Phillips Ranch has a Foothill Transit bus stop next to Country Crossing Park and more throughout the neighborhood. For nearby medical care, residents can drive 3 miles north to Southern California Medical Center. The closest major airport is the Ontario International Airport, about 10 miles away.
