One of east Portland's most popular neighborhoods
The Beaumont-Wilshire neighborhood, or Beaumont Village as it’s often called, is a densely residential neighborhood in northeast Portland. Known for its walkability and charming older homes, Beaumont-Wilshire features many local restaurants along Fremont Street, which runs west to east towards the south end. Wilshire Park anchors the residential patchwork of streets on the west end, offering a retreat from the suburban streets. Residents benefit from a small-town feel, just a few minutes from one of the hippest downtown areas in the U.S. “It’s a really popular neighborhood,” says Realtor Cassandra Marks of Realtor Cas, with more than five years’ experience. “People are really friendly and enjoy each other’s company.”
A variety of revitalized single-family homes
Set just a couple miles from the city’s center, most of the neighborhood’s homes line narrow, grid-like streets. These builds hail from the early and middle 20th century, including such styles as mid-century modern ranch-style, historic Craftsmans, and large Tudor Revivals. “There’s an odd diagonal section on the south end called Alameda Ridge,” says Marks. “Some of the homes have amazing views because they’re on the edge, staring into Portland, and you can watch the sunset.” Many of the older homes from the 1930s and 1940s have been renovated to either accentuate their antique features or go the more modern route. Such modifications mean buyers can expect to pay between $600,000 and $900,000 for a single-family home.

Walkable local eateries in Beaumont-Wilshire
Fremont Street is the neighborhood hub for quality eats within walking distance. “A pretty big staple is Pizzicato. It’s a locally owned chain with a lot of gluten-free options,” says Marks. Other spots like Prince Coffee help locals start their mornings with a fresh cup. Fremont Street and 42nd Avenue feature the greatest concentration of retail, where locals can find a variety of locally owned shops. For groceries or a curated selection of craft beers, folks head to Beaumont Market. Beaumont Hardware is the local staple for DIY products.
A day outside at Wilshire Park
Those looking to have a pleasant afternoon can picnic at Wilshire Park. “Everything is pretty walkable. Wilshire Park isn’t super big, but there’s a nice little off-leash area. You’ll often see people with kids there,” says Marks. A nature patch at the park’s center features plants native to the area. These are planted and cultivated to encourage the preservation of said species. Thanks to the virtual tour link provided online, folks can get a feel for the park without leaving home.
Cool things to do indoors
Visitors can stop and take a look at the historic—and allegedly haunted—Frank C. Barnes house. For late-night entertainment, swing by the Spare Room Lounge for dancing and karaoke, or catch a show at the nearby Alberta Rose Theater with regular live music and events.
Accessing Portland
Accessing greater Portland from the neighborhood is a relatively simple affair for residents who drive. There are buses, but no streetcar lines in or around the neighborhood. Beaumont-Wilshire is a 15-minute drive from Downtown Portland, Vancouver, and the airport, and 30 minutes from both Beaverton on the west side and the major hiking areas east of greater Portland.
