Hansville
Tree groves, Hansville Greenway and water access
Expansive green spaces can be found throughout the neighborhood. Foulweather Bluff Preserve has a trail through a grove of western red cedars and Douglas firs, while Buck Lake County Park spans over 155 acres, encompassing Buck Lake, a popular swimming hole and fishing spot. The Greater Hansville Community Center overlooks the lake and is also an event space. Buck Lake County Park has basketball and volleyball courts, a baseball field and grants access to the Hansville Greenway, a 375-acre greenspace with over 7 miles of walking and equestrian trails woven through wetlands. On the east side of the Kitsap Peninsula, the Point No Point Lighthouse is part of Point No Point County Park, an open green space with over a mile of trail. "Point No Point Lighthouse is iconic, and many people come from outside the area to visit,” Bingham says. “It is active with marine traffic, and you will often see seals, sea lions, harbor porpoises, and even orcas on lucky occasions. People love walking the sandy beaches there, which is attractive because Pacific Northwest beaches are usually rocky or shelly."Housing spread between Driftwood Key and ShoreWoods
From the waterfront to the neighborhood’s interior, single-family homes include builds from the 1960s through the 2020s, with both single-story and two-story architecture. Depending on the age and size, the ranch-style homes list between $430,000 and $845,000, while the contemporary traditionals start at $695,000 and go up to $910,000. Homes sit atop hills, and list between $742,000 for a one-bedroom and $2.4 million for a four-bedroom. "Driftwood Key is a Hansville HOA Community oriented on the water. There's a hill that climbs up to amazing vistas, and from the majority of the houses, you can view the Hood Canal and the Olympic Mountains,” says Bingham, a resident of the community. “Since we have view protection covenants, there are fewer trees and more open spaces. We also enjoy a private sandy beach, marina, pool and clubhouse." Both the Hansville and ShoreWoods subdivisions have monthly homeowners association fees that range between $50 and $60, while providing amenities like clubhouses and pools.Celebrations in Buck Lake Park
The Hansville Community hosts annual events, from a traditional Easter Egg Hunt in March to annual local traditions, such as the Hansville Car Show in July. For over a decade, vintage cars and motorcycles have congregated at Buck Lake Park. The park is also used in late July for the community-wide garage sale, Junk in the Trunk, where sellers rent a parking spot to sell their items. There are seven gardens dispersed across Hansville, including Buck Lake Native Garden, which is part of the annual summertime Hansville Garden Tour. Proceeds from ticket sales for the self-guided experience are raised for the community support group, Hansville Helping Hands.Hansgrill Hansville Grocery and Greewoodes baked goods
Hansgrill Hansville Grocery and Provisions Co. is the only shopping option in town, with a general store and dining area. "A really excellent bakery is called Greenwoodes Farm, which has incredible baked goods, sandwiches and soup,” Bingham says. “It's a treat to have something of such high quality at this end of the road." The organic bakery, located on Hansville Road NE, also specializes in jams. Since Hansville is further from both Poulsbo and Kingston, Kitsap Peninsula’s larger shopping centers, restaurants and stores are limited, and the closest Safeway is roughly 8 miles south on Hansville Rd NE. From here, merging onto NE state Highway 104 for about 2.5 miles are a Kingston IGA Market and a Grocery Outlet.Education and Kingston High School’s award-winning band
North Kitsap School District serves Hansville, where the western half of the community begins at David Wolfe Elementary and the eastern half starts at Richard Gordon Elementary, both of which earn a grade of B from Niche. Kingston Middle earns a B, and Kingston High, which earns a B-minus, has a successful school band, which has won numerous All-State and All-Northwest honors.Traveling from Hansville Road to state Highway 104
Northeast Twin Spits Road runs along Hansville’s northern area and connects the Foulweather Bluff Preserve on the western tip to the Hansville Greenway Alder Wetland on the east. From here, the road splits south into Hansville Road Northeast, where it intersects with west- and east-running Washington state Highway 104. Kitsap Transit bus stops also line WA-104, which travels 10 miles east into Kingston. Ferries depart to Edmonds and Seattle from Kingston, providing one route to reach the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SeaTac), roughly 48 miles away or 86 miles by car.
