Dense suburb close to major shopping
One of Pueblo's southernmost neighborhoods, Highland Park offers a denser suburban environment while maintaining its proximity to shopping. “Pueblo Boulevard and Northern Avenue are well-trafficked and major streets,” says John R. Beaupre, real estate agent at HomeSmart Preferred Realty, who’s lived in the area for over five years. “There’s the Walmart Supermarket there. You’re close to various fast food and local restaurants. There’s a lot of good local places.” Bordered by Pueblo Boulevard or the Boulevard, it also allows for seamless local travel around Pueblo and the Centennial State.

Collections of Midcentury ranches and bi-levels
Highland Park is mainly an area of single-family dwellings. Homes share similar exterior characteristics, including front and back yards, private driveways, and multi-car garages. Most houses are closer together with minimal lot sizes compared to the El Camino neighborhood next door. Condos are located closer to Northern Ave, ranging from $215,000 to $250,000. The streets are filled with bi-levels, midcentury ranchers and modern homes built from the 1950s to the 1980s. Prices range from $180,000 to $380,000.

Two pocket parks with open fields
Highland Park is home to a few pocket parks. Laura’s Park and Vinewood Park share similar amenities, such as a playground and open fields. Just outside the neighborhood, Lake Minnequa Veteran’s Memorial Park stretches 270 acres. “Lake Minnequa has a grand history; it used to be an old country club back in the days when the steel mills were robust,” Beaupre says. “It’s not as busy as you expect, but people enjoy the trails and recreation there.” People also take advantage of the athletic turf field and four basketball courts. The trails stretch 2.5 miles and often have hikers, bikers and joggers.

The Pueblo Chile and Frijoles Festival celebrates the city’s agriculture scene and the beloved Pueblo green Chile. “Our Chile Festival is in the fall during our harvest season; nearly 100,000 people come to that,” says Nicki Hart, longtime resident and business owner. “They taste our Chile and have food samplings.
