Architecturally diverse neighborhood built in the 19th century
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Pueblo’s Northside neighborhood was home to the city’s upper class. Developed by brothers and citywide investors John and Mahlon Thatcher, today Northside is a walkable neighborhood full of large Victorian homes, bungalows and big, shady trees. “You got higher priced properties [in Northside] because they’re restored historic homes,” says Shelly Bueno, realtor at eXp Realty and a Pueblo native. “You have versatility in that area, from the affluent mansions to smaller family homes.” Architecture is a major draw here, but neighbors also appreciate the area’s walkability. Major employers like Parkview Medical Center and green spaces like Mineral Palace Park sit within walking distance, and downtown restaurants are just south of the neighborhood.

Home to two historic districts
Homes in Northside were primarily built between the 1890s and 1960s. “They’re revamping a lot of the smaller homes so you can live in that neighborhood at an affordable price,” says Bueno. Northside is one of Pueblo’s most architecturally diverse neighborhoods. In its historic districts, wedged between 17th and 20th streets, are Victorian homes and Craftsman-style bungalows. These homes sit underneath tall trees casting shadows over the roads, sidewalks and bike lanes. Historic district homes often sell for $190,000 to $400,000. Southeast of the neighborhood is a collection of cottage and craftsman homes with driveways or small lawns abutting streets or sidewalks. Prices around this section range from $100,000 to $308,000. Condos, ranches and two-story Victorians sit north of 20th Street. Condos range from $130,000 to $160,000, while other properties here range from $175,000 to $460,000.

Close by to historic Mineral Palace Park
Mineral Palace Park is located along the neighborhood’s southeast end. Unveiled in 1891, the 51-acre park was home to the Colorado Mineral Palace, a monument to the state’s mineral wealth. It hosted social events like weddings and performances until it closed in 1942, but the park, which had one of Pueblo’s first big flower gardens, remains. Today, people visit the park to see the gardens or go for a walk. Kids can swim at the pool or play on the playground. El Pueblo Pride Park on the neighborhood's west end also has a playground, and a mile north of the neighborhood on Elizabeth Street is the Slabs, which has been the spot for pickup basketball games for generations. Nearby is the Pueblo Riverwalk, where people stroll around the Arkansas Riverwalk channel and take boats and kayak rides on Lake Elizabeth.

Home to Rosemount Museum and Parkview hospital
The Rosemount Museum served as the home for John A. and Margaret Thatcher and their children for over 75 years. Built in 1893, the large 24,000-square-foot Richardson Romanesque mansion offers guided tours of its 37 rooms. Most of the rooms still hold the original furniture. Within Northside is Parkview Medical Center, built in response to the Great Flood of 1921. It still stands today with its Tudor-style architecture, and is one of the city's primary employers. “People walk around that area because they live there or work at the hospital,” Bueno says.
