Exclusive and luxurious part of Pueblo
Located north of Highway 50, the University neighborhood offers a luxurious aura compared to the rest of Pueblo. “That area has exploded, and it’s become a real, exclusive part of Pueblo,” says Charles Valentish, realtor at HomeSmart Preferred Realty and Pueblo native. Its isolated location on the city's north side near the public Walking Stick Golf Course gives it a secluded, quiet feel. “Some homes are actually on the course,” says Valentish. “You have the enclave and the Colorado State University-Pueblo. That’s what makes it exclusive.” Modern amenities like shopping, dining and entertainment are 2 miles away.

Mixture of gated and regular subdivisions
University is considered one of Pueblo’s more upscale neighborhoods, says Valentish. Besides the shamrock green trees lining the streets, homes have grand landscaping with larger lawns, fences and multi-car garages. The neighborhood was developed during the 1970s, and new construction is still happening. “Here, you have 70s architecture mixed in with today’s architecture,” Valentish says. A handful of planned subdivisions and gated communities circle the Walking Stick Golf Course. The Village Green at Walking Stick is a gated community with a private clubhouse and a fitness room. Its homeowner's association has a $300 monthly fee, and most homes are larger Mediterranean-style properties priced from $500,000 to $950,000. The Vistas at Walking Stick is located on the northwest end of the golf course and east of Cedarwood Boulevard. These homes are larger mountain contemporary homes and Tuscan-style ranchers and townhouses. Prices range from $375,000 to over $1.1 million. West of the neighborhood are single family homes like split-levels with stucco roofing, costing between $375,000 and $600,000. “There’s also different demographics. You have some retired people and folks affiliated with the university,” Valentish adds.
