Kew Gardens Hills
Garden apartments in sunny Kew Gardens Hills
The neighborhood is largely made up of brick rowhouses, garden apartments, single-family homes and low- to mid-rise developments. “Kew Gardens Hills is a sunny neighborhood. There are not a lot of tall buildings,” says Bianca Colasuonno, a Compass agent who has been selling real estate in Queens for more than 20 years. A one-bedroom garden apartment starts at around $200,000, while a two-bedroom home in a walk-up condo building costs about $650,000. A three-bedroom rowhouse starts at around $800,000, and larger homes can easily reach $1 million.Easy access to trains and parkways
“The biggest draw of the neighborhood is transportation,” Colasuonno says. “If you need to get to points east, you have the Grand Central Parkway and you're right near the Long Island Expressway. If you're going north, you can jump on the Grand Central, the JFK or even RFK bridge, or you can head to the Whitestone Bridge really easily as well.” Residents can also take an E or F train to Midtown Manhattan in about 30 minutes or take the Long Island Rail Road from the Kew Gardens station.Kosher restaurants and Halal markets
Kew Gardens Hills has “plenty of options for kosher restaurants and supermarkets,” Meirov says. Options include bakeries like Queens Pita and markets such as Seasons and Aron’s Kissena Farms. There are also halal markets and a Key Food supermarket. Essential services such as banks and pharmacies can be found on the neighborhood's Main Street, along with eateries like Max & Mina's Ice Cream—renowned for its creative flavors like Cap'n Crunch Baby Ruth or Donut Croissant Brownie—and Benjy’s Kosher Oven Pizza and Sushi Bar, which offers slices and spicy salmon rolls. It’s also a quick drive to area shopping centers, such as the Queens Center Mall and The Shops at Atlas Park.Local high school offers agriculture program
In Kew Gardens Hill, students can attend P.S. 164 Queens Valley from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Niche gives it a B-plus rating. John Bowne High School has a B-minus rating. The high school offers an agriculture program with a 4-acre “land laboratory” featuring a large animal barn, an exotic animal laboratory, fields and a greenhouse.Adjacent to Flushing Meadows Corona Park
The neighborhood is right next to Flushing Meadows Corona Park, offering nearly 900 acres of greenspace. The park is also home to several New York City landmarks, including the Unisphere—one of the surviving structures from the 1964-65 World’s Fair—the Queens Museum and The Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, home to the annual U.S. Open tournament. Citi Field, where the New York Mets play baseball, is just north of the park. There are also several pocket parks throughout the area.
