Roots date to rubber factory from early 20th Century
Rubberville-Oak Park has two names. Rubberville is a nod to the community’s origin, as it was developed as housing for the workers at the Ajax Rubber factory, which opened in 1912. Oak Park was added in the 1920s as part of an advertisement campaign. Today, it goes by both monikers and features mainly rental properties about 3 miles from downtown Racine.
Rental duplexes are common in the neighborhood
There is a small selection of ranch-style houses and Craftsman-inspired properties between 16th Street and Victory Avenue. Prices range from about $150,000 to $200,000, but homes very rarely come up for sale. Most of the neighborhood is large duplexes that range in styles, including Dutch Colonial and Craftsman-inspired and minimal traditional. "The vast majority of houses in Rubberville are rentals," Kimberly Mann says. Mann and her husband Russell host the "Living in Racine" YouTube channel.
Many of the Rubberville-Oak Park homes are modern builds with contemporary styling.
Dutch colonial is another common style found throughout Rubberville-Oak Park.
