Dining options in the neighborhood include Gus’ Gyro, a Greek restaurant whose owner immigrated to Racine from Nestani, Greece, in the 1970s. Residents can visit ALDI or local businesses such as Douglas Hardware & Rental for groceries or home improvement needs. The neighborhood is also just a mile north of downtown Racine, home to various bars, restaurants, and community events. “The city itself isn’t that big, but we have some dope spots like Dragon Pit BBQ that is always packed,” says Omar Barron, a resident of Racine and owner of Spitfire Ink Tattoos.

Monthly aviation exhibits at Southeast Wisconsin Aviation Museum

The 13th Ward is near the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 838 and the Southeast Wisconsin Aviation Museum, highlighting Wisconsin's rich aviation history. The museum features a historic collection of airplanes and aviation memorabilia, including an exhibit dedicated to Alfred W. Lawson, the designer and builder of the first passenger airliner. It also offers a flight club for locals with a realistic flight simulator experience. Batten International Airport, the nation’s largest privately owned international airport, is near the museum. While the area experiences relatively low air traffic, planes occasionally fly over the neighborhood.

Elementary school transitions within community

Roosevelt Elementary School has a C-minus rating on Niche and is set to close at the end of the 2024-2025 school year.
