20th-century homes with character in Five Points East
Despite being only 2 miles from the heart of Raleigh, Five Points East maintains a quiet and somewhat private atmosphere with ample lots, various deciduous trees and low-traffic streets. Craftsman-style bungalows and American Foursquares are abundant throughout the neighborhood, featuring entryway gables and covered front porches. Although most of the properties here date back to the early to mid-20th century, a handful of newer homes – some built as recently as 2023 – showcase more townhouse-style contemporary architecture with attached garages and sleek vinyl exteriors. Older single-family homes can range anywhere from approximately $400,000 to $1.5 million, whereas the modern contemporary-style builds cost upwards of $1 million.Community parks and fitness centers within walking distance
Numerous outdoor parks and recreation spaces in and around Five Points East put outdoor recreation close by for residents. “You’re never more than a five-minute walk from a great park when you live here,” Batchelor says. Surrounded by family homes in the middle of the neighborhood, Roanoke Park is a community green space with open lawns, a playground and athletic facilities for volleyball and basketball. Just under a mile north of Five Points East is Fallon Park, a 10-acre strip of land with picnic areas and an unpaved walking path stretching the length of the park. Locals also have options for indoor recreation at boutique fitness centers like Studio Brick and Barre3, which specializes in barre classes that incorporate things like weights, cardio and ballet.Wake County Schools is a standout district for academics and athletics

Although most of Five Points East is residential, people can find several shopping centers and restaurants along the neighborhood's fringes. These commercial areas are a mix of older and newer establishments. “This area is still growing,” Batchelor says, adding that the community’s new restaurants have become a draw for potential homebuyers. Blocks branching from the Glenwood Avenue and Fairview Road intersection are packed with small businesses, local retailers and casual eateries like The Third Place, Lilly’s Pizza and Hayes Barton Café. Along Bickett Boulevard in the neighborhood’s southern end, residents can grab morning pastries from Bright Spot Donuts or dine at Ajja, a brightly themed Mediterranean restaurant.
