Greystone is a community of 16 neighborhoods
Made up of 16 neighborhoods and over 830 homes, Greystone is a large section of north Raleigh that defines itself by its sense of community. The active homeowners association meets monthly to address residents’ concerns. Greystone’s namesake swim and racquet club offers members fun summer recreation and events. The area is surrounded by established trees, ponds and wildlife, giving Greystone a more secluded feeling. Yet it’s close to Interstates 440 and 540, also known as the inner and out beltline, so there are plenty of choices for retail and dining in the area, and Greystone has its own shopping center.
Greystone
A mix of single-family homes and townhouses
"The homes are a little bit older, and usually on the smaller side for this area, but it's still a great neighborhood," says Mark Parker, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston who used to live in the area. Lot sizes in this section of Raleigh tend to be larger as it’s a more established neighborhood. Many Greystone homes were built in the 1980s and 90s. Single-family homes start at $444,000 and go up to over $870,000. Townhouses are also common throughout the neighborhood and range from $251,000 to $464,000. The townhouses along Baker Pond have waterfront views, as well as amenities like a community pool.
Wake County Public Schools serving the area
Lynn Road Elementary earns a B-plus on Niche, while Carroll Magnet Middle receives a B score. Sanderson High is a B-plus-rated school home to the Academy of Finance, a four-year program that teaches students about finance, economics and entrepreneurship. Wake County Public School System is an A-rated school district that offers open enrollment into magnet schools based on students' addresses. Zoning in Wake County is subject to change as schools can reach enrollment caps.
Navigating the Raleigh beltline by car
The neighborhood is about a 13-mile, or 16-minute, drive from Raleigh-Durham International Airport on Interstate 540, and the commute to downtown will take around 10 miles on a nearly straight shot down Six Forks Road. Greystone is a car-dependent neighborhood with no public transportation. The nearest emergency room is WakeMed North Hospital, which is about 5 miles away. It is a drive that will take around 11 minutes in light traffic. The neighborhood is just off U.S. Route 50, also known as Creedmoor Road, a busy thoroughfare that runs from the coast to the Triangle. Greystone’s CAP Index crime score is 3 out of 10, slightly lower than the national average of 4.
A namesake swim club and neighborhood lakes
The Greystone Homeowners Association runs the Greystone Swim & Racquet Club. However, membership is open to non-residents too. The 9-acre facility includes an Olympic-size pool, as well as courts for tennis, basketball and volleyball. It’s home to the Greystone Gators swim team. “They have a rivalry with Seven Oaks Swim and Racquet Club,” Parker says. “It’s friendly, though.” There are many walking trails running through the wooded neighborhood that has three private lakes and many creeks. Anglers can catch and release fish at all Greystone ponds. Wildlife there also includes several bird species like great egrets and red-tailed hawks.
Retail and eateries to the east and west
Greystone has shopping, dining, and entertainment options in every direction. To the east, Greystone Village is home to a Food Lion and gas station. There’s a variety of cuisines, from Mexican food at Gonza Taco Y Tequila to caffeinated drinks at Sola Coffee Cafe. Stonehenge Market is a shopping center west of the neighborhood anchored by a Harris Teeter. It features a mix of chain stores and eateries in addition to local spots like Orchid Japanese Restaurant with an all-you-can-eat sushi buffet. In addition to a Target, Six Forks Station Shopping Mall has a Triangle Cinema.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
