Longacres provides community and affordable homes in eastern Raleigh
Longacres is a small residential neighborhood in eastern Raleigh defined by low traffic, tree-lined streets and a palpable sense of community. With an average home value of just over $280,000, housing options here are relatively more affordable compared to the greater Raleigh metropolitan area, which has an average value of nearly $535,000. Despite its primarily residential property mix, Longacres offers proximity to commercial corridors, such as New Bern Avenue, and the downtown area is less than 3 miles away. The neighborhood has an overall CAP Index Crime Score of 7 out of 10, higher than the national average score of 4.
Single-family homes average less than $300,000
Housing options in Longacres are divided between single-family homes and multifamily units, such as apartments. Common single-family housing styles include traditional bungalows and ranch properties on sizeable, grassy lots along quiet, tree-lined residential streets in the eastern half of the neighborhood. These homes mostly range from $200,000 to $350,000. Apartment buildings and multifamily units are clustered in the westernmost portion of Longacres. Although sidewalks are scarce in the area, the roads see little traffic, allowing residents to walk, jog or take their dogs for a stroll.
Zoning for the Wake County Public School System
Longacres is served by the Wake County Public School System, which receives an overall A rating from Niche. Kathy Pitney, a local real estate agent with Keller Williams Elite Realty, explains that Raleigh’s growing population has led some schools to adopt year-round calendars with four quarters instead of the traditional three. She adds that in addition to base schools, there are also schools of choice, and many end up full and enrollment is capped, so living in a particular area does not always guarantee admission to a specific school. Longacres students in prekindergarten through fifth grade can attend Poe Elementary, a B-rated school, and grades six through eight are zoned for the A-rated Moore Square Museum Magnet Middle School. Needham Broughton High School earns an A-minus rating and is in the top ten high schools in the Raleigh area, according to Niche’s 2026 rankings. Nearby colleges include Shaw University and North Carolina State University.
Proximity to Roberts Park and Raleigh Country Club
Although Longacres itself lacks outdoor parks, there are several city green spaces, golf courses and other recreational spots within walking distance of the neighborhood. Opposite the neighborhood across Poole Road is the Raleigh Country Club, a private complex with luxury amenities, including an 18-hole golf course. A couple of blocks west of Longacres is Roberts Park, a 7.2-acre space featuring a large playground, athletic courts for tennis and basketball, picnic shelters, and an indoor community center with a fitness room and gymnasium. The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Gardens are located directly southwest of the neighborhood and center around a notable landmark statue of the civil rights activist.
Three miles to downtown dining and entertainment
Longacres is within a short drive of many Raleigh shopping and dining options. Pitney describes the area as very multicultural, with numerous international establishments and restaurants. Along nearby New Bern Avenue, locals can grab a bite to eat at places like Jack’s Restaurant, which specializes in seafood and soul food favorites. Two miles west, closer to the downtown area, are popular spots like Hady’s Restaurant International Cuisine and Sitti, a Lebanese spot with a communal table. “You’ve also got all kinds of theatre companies and musical performances that come to downtown,” Pitney says. Acts perform at places like Lincoln Theatre, Meymandi Concert Hall and City Plaza’s Main Stage. For everyday essentials and groceries, Food Lion is 2 miles east of Longacres.
Easy access to the Interstate 440 beltway and GoRaleigh bus routes

GoRaleigh operates bus routes 15, 55X, and 18, which pass through the area, servicing downtown and the greater metro area. Raleigh-Durham International Airport is approximately a 20-minute drive from the neighborhood. Longacres residents are conveniently located just 2 miles from the WakeMed Raleigh Campus, which offers 24-hour emergency services.
