Stonehenge is a neighborhood between the beltline
In the large neighborhood of Stonehenge, northwest Raleigh amenities are a short drive away. “The thing that’s really cool about Stonehenge is that it’s between the beltline,” says Mark Parker, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston who used to live in the neighborhood. “There’s Interstate 440, our inner beltline, and Interstate 540, our outer beltline, so it’s smack dab in the middle of that. There are a lot of shops, restaurants, and convenience right around it.” While it's close to city amenities, Stonehenge has more of a suburban feeling with larger lots and established foliage. The neighborhood also has a swim and tennis club that residents can join and a voluntary yet active homeowners association.
1980s homes and newer builds on larger lots
“The neighborhood was started in the mid-1980s, and most of those lots are larger, typically 0.75 to a little over an acre,” Parker says. The neighborhood can be divided into three major sections. The northwest quadrant of Creedmoor and Howard Roads has houses from the 1970s and later, while homes east of Creedmoor Road were primarily built in the 1980s. The southwest quadrant of Creedmoor and Howard Roads has a mix of newer homes as well as some from the '80s and '90s. “About six years ago, someone sold a little horse farm, and a lot of new homes were developed there,” Parker says. Single-family home prices range from $460,000 to just under $1.2 million. Condos and townhouses start at $280,000 and go up to just under $425,000.
There are several newly built homes with well-manicured lawns in the Stonehenge neighborhood.

Close to several malls and shopping centers
Stonehenge Market is home to Harris Teeter, small businesses and eateries. “It’s got pretty much everything you need,” Parker says. Orchid Japanese Restaurant has an extensive sushi and hibachi menu. About a mile up Creedmoor Road, Brennan Station has another Harris Teeter as well as a Trader Joe’s and a mix of chain and fine dining restaurants. More shopping and dining options are nearby at Greystone Village, Towne North Plaza and Crabtree Valley Mall, the largest indoor mall in the Triangle. “It’s also the most active,” Parker says. “I deal with the traffic there all the time. At Christmas time, you really try to avoid it.”
Stonehenge residents have many options for retail therapy within the neighborhood.
Stonehenge families have access to the shops at the Pleasant Valley Promenade, less than 15 minutes from the neighborhood.

Changing school zones in Wake County
School zoning changes throughout the neighborhood and should be checked online. “It really depends on what side of the street you’re on,” Parker says. The northern section of the neighborhood is zoned for Jeffreys Grove Magnet Elementary, which receives an A grade on Niche. Students then go to B-rated Carroll Magnet Middle and B-plus Sanderson High. There, students can apply to attend the Academy of Finance, a four-year business, economics and entrepreneurship program. Families can apply to attend other magnet schools within the Wake County Public School System.
Convenient to almost everything in the Triangle
Raleigh-Durham International Airport is an almost 13-mile drive on Interstate 540. Commuters will have to drive about 12 miles to downtown on Interstate 440. The trip will take around 24 minutes in moderate traffic. “You’re just 20 minutes from Research Triangle Park, Cary and the airport,” Parker says. “It’s a northwest neighborhood, but it’s extremely convenient to almost everything in the Triangle." Both UNC REX Hospital and Duke Raleigh Hospital are around 7 miles from the neighborhood. The neighborhood is mostly car-dependent, but there are a few bus stops along Creedmoor Road, the neighborhood’s eastern border. Stonehenge has a CAP Index crime score of 3 out of 10, slightly lower than the national average of 4.
Seven Oaks Swim & Racquet Club and nearby green spaces
Seven Oaks Swim & Racquet Club members can swim in three 10-lane pools or play pickleball and tennis. Membership is $1,200 annually, plus an initiation fee of $4,900. "It used to be part of the homeowners association but was run down in the 90s and bought by a developer who turned it into a private club," Parker says. The Marlins swim team has a neighborly rivalry with the Greystone Swim & Racquet Club. Lake Lynn Park is a few miles away and offers greenway trails along the lake, a playground and a community center with a gym and meeting rooms. Shelley Lake Park is also close by.
Neighborhood events with the Stonehenge Homeowners Association
The Stonehenge Homeowners Association hosts recurring game nights and socials, as well as annual events like a fall festival and summer pool party. “The HOA is voluntary and $25,” Parker says. “It’s pretty social, but not everyone in the neighborhood is a member." Those who are members can join book, bridge or supper clubs. Upcoming events are updated on the Stonehenge Living website.
