Since lumber prices are high in South Dakota, however, seeing two-story homes rise from the flat land is rare; residents have different ways of creating extra household space instead. “Lots of houses have pretty elaborate basement setups,” says Kristen Andrews-Lowe, a broker with RE/MAX Advantage who has served the area for 20 years. “Some cities build up, we build down.”
