About Red Bank, SC

About Red Bank, SC

Growing Columbia suburb

Just outside Lexington, a suburb of Columbia, sits a rapidly growing community called Red Bank that’s embracing the mass migration of newcomers to the state of South Carolina. “In recent years, we’ve seen a lot of movement into South Carolina from Northeastern states like New York and Pennsylvania,” says co-owner of Todd Realty Partners Todd Carnes, who’s lived in Lexington for 22 years and has twice been elected to Lexington Town Council. “That’s because we have great weather and tons of economic opportunities.” Now proudly boasting a Chick-Fil-A, Publix and Starbucks, Red Bank in particular is growing faster than its surrounding areas¬ due to its lower housing prices and greater availability. New commercial and residential developments are constantly being added to the community, and Red Bank residents are proud to watch their neighborhood grow.

Red Bank’s rapid development builds family-friendly neighborhoods

Currently undergoing development, Red Bank offers a nearly endless catalog of newly built multi-story American traditional-style homes, often located within master-planned communities. These homes typically have four to five bedrooms and are at least 2,000 square feet. Their prices hover around $300,000, the overall average list price in Red Bank. Twentieth-century bungalows are available for lower prices, typically within the $150,000 to $250,000 range.

Community-centered White Knoll High School in top-ranked district

All schools in Red Bank are in Lexington County School District One, "one of the highest-ranked districts in the state," says Carnes. He's correct: Niche's 2024 Best Schools List ranked the district the fourth best in the state, with the quality of this district certainly attributing to the neighborhood's rapid growth. Red Bank has five elementary schools—White Knoll, Saxe Gotha, Red Bank, Carolina Springs and Deerfield—two middle schools—White Knoll and Carolina Springs—and one high school, White Knoll. All schools received Bs or higher on Niche. "A large part of Red Bank revolves around White Knoll High School," says Carnes. "There's always something going on there, and that definitely brings the community together."

South Carolina Golf Association’s award-winning country club

Family-friendly and great for walking, the Red Bank Arena is a popular town hangout. With its baseball and softball fields and playgrounds, parents frequently take their kids here, and those interested in more extreme sports take advantage of the park's BMX track. The Pine Grove Sports Complex is another popular spot, and it has a clean, well-maintained playground with equipment for all ages, baseball and softball fields, football, picnic tables and a walking trail around the complex. The nearby Country Club of Lexington is a coveted outdoor recreation hub. Recently awarded "Club of the Year" by the South Carolina Golf Association, the private club has a golf course, tennis courts, putting greens and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

The Shoppes at White Knoll is a regional retail destination

Compared to its neighboring towns in Lexington County, Red Bank has an abundance of shopping and dining options. At the Platt Springs and South Lake intersection is a shopping center called the Shoppes at White Knoll, where residents have various retail options, including a Walmart, Lowe’s, Goodwill, Aaron’s, Food Lion and ALDI. Sonic, Popeyes, Little Caesars and the local fast-food chain Rush’s are popular spots for takeout, but there are also a few sit-down options, like Carolina Wings & Rib House and China House.

Interstate 20 connects Red Bank to Columbia

Red Bank is conveniently located along Interstate 20, which residents can travel for 16 miles to get to downtown Columbia. Its closest airport is the Columbia Metropolitan Airport, about seven miles away, and its nearest hospital is the Lexington Medical Center, about 10 miles away. No public transit options are available within or around Red Bank, so residents rely on cars for transportation.

Fourth of July fireworks and Christmas at the Riverbanks Zoo

Each year, Red Bank residents head to one of two big Fourth of July festivals in nearby towns. The Lexington County Peach Festival in Gilbert is an all-day celebration with live music, a parade, a car show and, of course, fresh peaches from the farm. That night, nearby Lake Murray puts on the largest fireworks show in South Carolina, synchronized with music and viewable from the shore or a boat. Each November and December, the Riverbanks Zoo & Garden has an elaborate zoo-themed holiday lights display with nearly 60 handcrafted lanterns inspired by the animals in the park.
