Growing city with new-construction homes and quality schools
Founded in 1844 by Colonel James E. Patton and initially named “Possum Trot,” the city of Red Oak was named because of the Red Oak Creek and the abundance of Oak Trees lining it. Later in the 19th century, the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad made its way to Red Oak, making it a more attractive community, and it connected it to Dallas and Waco. Today, the city continues to grow due to the outward expansion of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Red Oak has a population of over 14,000, a 32 percent increase since 2010. New construction homes, a quality school system and proximity to Interstate 35 have helped the city’s growth and attracted new homebuyers to the area.
