Wedged between the Redbank and Mahoning Creeks, Redbank Township is a rural community in Western Pennsylvania stationed at the northeastern edge of Armstrong County. The township spans over 32 square miles and has a population of just 1,000 residents, though it does neighbor the more populous borough of New Bethlehem. "The area is very close-knit," says local Realtor Sandy Bracken, who has worked in real estate for over 15 years. "It really has a hometown feel."

Driving through Redbank Township's thick forests and hilly farmland, you'll find a wealth of older architectural home styles from cabins and split-levels to farmhouses and ranch homes. A single-story home can price between $100,000 and $175,000 while larger homes with several bedrooms may range between $200,000 and $300,000. It's also common for buyers to purchase large plots of land for the purpose of constructing newer, more private properties. Homes in Redbank Township often spend two to three months on the market before being sold.

Redbank Township students go to schools under the Redbank Valley School District umbrella, which are located 6 miles northwest between New Bethlehem and Hawthorn. From kindergarten to Grade 2, children can go to Redbank Valley Primary School and advance to Redbank Valley Intermediate School for Grades 3 through 6. Both schools earn an overall Niche grade of C-plus. After Grade 6, students then move on to Redbank Valley High School, which earns a Niche grade of C-minus. The high school offers a competitive athletics program on top of a host of extracurricular clubs and organizations that include FBLA, National Honor Society and a ski club.

Given the township's rural setting, locals often spend lots of time outdoors throughout the year. During the summer, children frequent Oak Ridge Ballfield to work on their curveball. Hunters are in proximity to state game land 137, which sits 8 miles west of the township, while campers can fish, grill and even play sand volleyball at Milton Loop Campground 7 miles to the south.

For groceries, Redbank Township residents often venture 8 miles northwest into New Bethlehem to pick up fresh meats and produce from Tom's Riverside. While you're in New Bethlehem, go to Village Pizza & Subs on Broad Street and order one of its signature Village Square pies or strombolis. Just across the street, you can also stop by Canyon Coffee Co. for a latte or a cake pop to ease your sweet tooth.

When you drive by Ever Moore's on Broad Street, you may notice the peanut butter bear statue that greets customers as they walk in. The statue pays homage to New Bethlehem's annual Peanut Butter Festival, which takes place each September and includes fireworks, a vintage car cruise and an eating contest where winners can earn cash prizes. "Who doesn’t love peanut butter? It’s just a little town festival that gives people something fun to celebrate. There are vendors with peanut butter fudge, cookies and lots of other treats. These festivals are big in the area," Bracken says.

Redbank Township residents are largely car-dependent. Downtown Pittsburgh is a 64-mile drive away, though locals can get there within two hours by traveling southwest on Alexander H. Lindsay Memorial Highway.
