Far east Redding community near higher education and golfing
Tucked between the public Shasta College and the private, faith-based Simpson University along Highway 299, Hawley is a blend of subdivisions to the west and an expansive open area to the east. Residential streets are hemmed in by two north-south corridors: Hawley Road and Twin Tower Drive. Both are accessible from Highway 299, but they eventually end within the neighborhood, keeping the community free of through traffic. Dirt trails that etch its eastern undeveloped area lead to Shasta College, and within the southern portion, a new, nearly 60-acre Collyer Campus of Bethel Church is under construction. Residents aren't likely to say they live "in Hawley" but rather "out by Shasta College," as the college is integral to the community and is a draw based on proximity. The expansion of Bethel, a mega-church with its own music label and more than 11,000 congregants across five campuses, will bring more than $10 million worth of traffic improvements, including road widening, new signals and turnabouts to the community's landscape. Hawley is just 2 miles east of Bethel's main Redding campus on College View Drive, which connects with Simpson University. Residents are also only 6 miles north of popular destinations in Downtown Redding along the Sacramento River.
